Christmas Gleaming for CI68 - Crew Card

It's hard to believe that it's almost December and that Christmas is just around the corner. To help get you in the mood, we have a Christmas-inspired palette for you to play with this fortnight.

Isn't it lovely? If you haven't played with us before, we we're a group of Australian and New Zealand Stampin' Up Demonstrators. You can play with us by joining in our Facebook group here which will let you play along, comment and vote for your favourite from the top 5 selected by the crew.

In addition to the challenge colours, you can freely use Whisper White, Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Crumb Cake, metallics and skin-tone blends. If you don't have the exact challenge colours, you can substitute with your nearest-to colours.

I'm very much into Christmas card mode at present. My favourite set at the moment is the Christmas Gleaming bundle, mainly because the two punches that co-ordinate with the stamped baubles are so easy to use.

I loved these rich and inviting colours but decided to tone them down a little by sponging the colour onto the baubles, which had been embossed in silver first. I used a blender pen and Silvery Shimmer ink pad to paint the bauble hangers.

The holly leaves are coloured using Shaded Spruce and Pretty Peacock Stampin' Blends. I used a clear Wink of Stella pen to draw some of the Shaded Spruce from the stamped holly images to colour the berries a little.

I added texture to the Silver Foil mat by running it through the Subtle embossing folder first. Doesn't it give the foil a super new look?

Next up on the hop is Rebecca Scurr who will have some more inspiration for these luscious colours.
We'd love to see what you make with them. You have two weeks to play along with us and show us.

So Many Stars for Paper Players 469

I love a sketch challenge and the latest one at The Paper Players is just my kind of thing. I just HAD to play it. Usually, the stubborn part in me kicks in and refuses to let me play with the shape that's been used in the sketch but this time around, it matched in with an idea I'd been toying with in my head for a few days.

I wanted to make a classic Christmas card in white and gold that used So Many Stars and this sketch gave me the impetus to do it. Here's the result.

I chose the Swirls and Curls embossing folder because it reminds me a bit of Van Gogh's Starry Night sky. For the gold foil mat and accent strip, I used the Subtle embossing folder to create a kind of faux ribbon strip but that folder also helps the foil reflect the light.

Update: Delighted to be chosen Headliner at The Paper Players!

Timeless Tulips for CAS Colours and Sketches 348

The colour challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches seemed a great opportunity to have a play with Timeless Tulips. This set was in all the Conference bags at OnStage and this is my first play with it.

First up, I created a sponged column ranging from Pear Pizzazz at the bottom, moving through to Blushing Bride and finishing with Rich Razzleberry the top. Then I stamped in the three flowers. The top two deliberately broke the sponged column a little and I used a blender pen to pull some colour over to the bits on the white background.

After stamping in the stems and leaves, I used Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Blends to add some depth of colour and shading to the flowers. A bit of clear Wink of Stella gave the leaves a bit more emphasis.

Finally, I added in the sweet wee 'Happy Birthday' from the same set.

Timeless Tulips will be available in early January when the January-June Mini-catalogue comes out.

Update: Pleased to be chosen a Weekly Winner at CAS Colours and Sketches.
