Butterfly Brilliance et al for AYSI 282

Welcome to the latest challenge at As You See It and after recipe week, it's always theme week. I hope you like this theme because I chose it way back in January when I was in the first flush of being a first-time Grandma!

I've been thinking a lot lately about how to best build your stamp collection when you first start out. I always advise people to look for something 'versatile'. This is something you often hear but what does it actually mean? I think it means looking for images that could easily be used for different occasions by changing up the colours and/or the sentiment. For that reason, I often suggest that a good first or second set is something floral, foliage or butterflies and a set with a variety occasions in the sentiment.

So, although I have a couple of excellent baby specific sets, I set out to make something without using them to illustrate the point. 😀

I used the Butterfly Brilliance set and coordinating Brilliant Wings dies. Instead of a sentiment set, I used something similar. I used the new Alphabest bundle, which lets you create your own wording. The 'hello' is from a set in my stash, Forever Fern.

Since I was making baby cards, I stuck with pastel colours, one each of So Saffron, Pool Party and Blushing Bride.  You could choose whatever colour you like with this layout.

You can see how I made these cards in this video.

You can see what the rest of the team did with these ingredients and link up your own entry at the As You See It Challenge page. We'd love to see what you do with this theme!

Ranunculus for Colour INKspiration 128

Welcome to the latest challenge at Colour INKspiration! This interesting colour combination was chosen for us by Crew Member Lou Kitzelman.

If you haven't played with us before, we are a group of Stampin' Up Demonstrators from the South Pacific. Challenges are shown and entered via our Facebook Group page. If you don't belong, and would like to, click here. Don't forget to answer the three easy questions you'll be asked when you ask to join the group.

Each challenge, Top Picks and a winner are chosen by the crew and the winner offered a chance to Guest Design with us for a future challenge. As we unusually had fewer than ten entries in #127, we do not have a Guest this challenge.

If you don't have an exact challenge colour, feel free to replace it with whatever you have that's closest, for example Daffodil Delight for So Saffron. Black, White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand and metallics are free colours, as are flesh toned Stampin' Blends.

At first, I wasn't sure quite what I was going to do with these colours. They didn't seem to gel with me. Once I got out a sheet of each colour and put them on the desk, I realised that they did work together well.

Then I put the sheets of cardstock back in the filing cabinet and got out a sheet of Fluid100 Watercolour paper instead. 😀

I used the thick water painter to create an a rainbow of the four colours ranging from So Saffron, Petal Pink to Blushing Bride and finally Tahitian Tide. Once it was dry, I used the gorgeous leaf die from the Ranunculus dies to cut a bunch of leaves.

I stamped the sentiment in Sahara Sand and cut it with one of the Layering Circles dies and mounted it onto the ornate circle frame from the Peaceful Moments dies.

The background uses the Hive 3D embossing folder and a plain Basic White panel cut with the Deckled Rectangle dies. I finished with a bow made from the Basic White Crinkle Seam Binding and some Iridescent Rhinestones.

Since I had some leaves left over, I used them to decorate one of the Delicate Details Treat Boxes. They look great, even undecorated.

We'd love to have you join in the challenge with us. Visit the Colour INKspiration site to check out the album of Crew Cards for inspiration. You can also add your entry there. We all enjoy seeing what you do with our colour palettes, so join in!

Plentiful Plants for JAI 616

I had some spare time today and used it to play along with Just Add Ink's sketch challenge.

I had Plentiful Plants out on the desk, put there to remind myself to use it more since it's such a lovely set. My eyes strayed over to the inks and lit upon the 2022-2024 In Colours. Then this card happened. 😀

The sentiment is from Romantic Ranunculus, which I like because it's both friendly and works for many occasions.

The popped-up circle is cut using the largest circle in Beautiful Shapes. It's a lovely subtle edging, isn't it?

I finished off with some Brushed Brass Butterflies, nestling in the pot.
