Sea Turtle for AYSI 291

As always, after our sketch challenge comes a colour challenge. What a vibrant and interesting mix Joanne has given us!

Perhaps not everyone would see it this way but to me it looked like a marine colourway. Maybe I was unjustly influenced by the new Sea Turtle set that just happened to be on my desk. 😀

I masked off a strip about 4 cm wide and went to town creating an underwater scene. As this stamp set is reversible, I created some wildly waving kelp in Sweet Sorbet, using both sides (and both ends) of the stamp. The water, stamped in Tahitian Tide, I'm really pleased with. I also like the Polished Pink school of fish and the Night of Navy sea urchins.

I scored the edges of the panel with my paper trimmer but I'm not sure if that was actually an enhancement!

I stamped the large turtle in Night of Navy on Basic White, then sponged the edges, first with Night of Navy and then Tahitian Tide. He's popped up on dimensionals over the watery background.

The sentiment and label are from the Something Fancy bundle. I added in some 2022-2024 Matte Decorative Dots in Tahitian Tide to finish the design off.

Cottage Rose for GDP378

I've played along with the latest sketch challenge at Global Design Project. I love sketch challenge - my favourite kind of challenge.

I've used a stencil to create the left hand vertical because I love that soft effect behind the flowers. The flowers are coloured with Stampin' Blends.

The card front is embossed with the Timeworn Type embossing folder. The main flower has been layered and popped up.

The final embellishments are Iridescent Pearls.

Beautifully Happy for AYSI 290

Welcome to a new year of challenges at As You See It. We're starting off the year with a sketch designed by team member, Jane. I love a sketch that gives parameters but is open enough that you can add your own twists - as this one does.

For the left hand panel, I used some of the Sale-a-Bration paper pack, Dainty Flowers. For the narrow vertical, I used one of the dies from Blossoming Happiness to give a kind of film strip edge.

For the main panel, I broke out another gorgeous Sale-a-Bration set, Beautifully Happy. This set is fantastic, offering outline stamps for colouring, fill in stamps to give a loose watecolour effect and a range of useful sentiments. It's a level 2 reward, meaning it's free with an order of $220 or more.  Sale-a-Bration is the best time to buy because for the money you're already spending, you can choose free items form the SAB brochure. Some of my customers save their big buying for this time of the year so they can get much more for their money. If you live in New Zealand and would like to shop with me, you can find the catalogues and my store here.

I stamped the floral spray once onto the card base, and again on a scrap of card. Then I coloured both using Stampin' Blends. That way, I could cut out some of the flowers and leaves and layer them up for a 3D effect.

As gorgeous as the spray is, my favourite stamps are the splatter (who doesn't love a splatter stamp?) and the tiny bee.

The sentiment is from the set, although I've masked out the 'FOR' that was at the start. It's popped up on dimensionals and I've added in some of the 2021-2023 In Colour Opal Rounds in Fresh Freesia to finish things off.
