Dashing Deer for Inspire. Create 54

This week, the challenge at Inspire. Create. is Die Cutting.

I love die cuts and I know that the day I decided to invest in a die-cutting machine was the day that my paper crafting moved on to a new level. This Christmas card ended up being more die-cutting than stamping but I've just got so many lovely dies!

I started by patinating a piece of Whisper White. The embossing folder I used was Tin Tile and the colours used were Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, a touch of Early Espresso and gold embossing.

I think that dies fall into two camps: plain and sexy. While the sexy ones are show stoppers, it's the plain ones that are the most used.

The Stitched Shapes dies are a case in point. How plain is a circle? Yet how amazing is the little stitched edge on the circle that steps up any card you choose to use it on. Same with the Layering Circle dies. That's the largest scallop shape sitting in behind, just quietly adding a flash of colour that helps tie the design together. The same goes for Stitched Rectangles. It's another of those plain die sets that quietly add elegance and interest without drawing attention to themselves.

The Christmas Layers dies and Detailed Deer are in the 'sexy' camp. They draw the eye and scream for us to look at them. They make a great accent or focal point.

Sip, Sip Hooray for JAI478

This week's challenge at Just Add Ink is to 'just add H'. This corresponded with an experimental period with my new set from the Holiday Catalogue, Sip, Sip Hooray. You can buy the stamp set alone or as a bundle with the matching dies. I love that one of the dies lets you cut out a bubble effect.

So I'm adding some HOORAYS! in this birthday card.

I wanted to create a sense of fun and celebration for this card so as well as having the glasses and 'hoorays' askew, I worked up a bright, bubbly background for them.

The background involved some sponging, some spritzing, some stamping, some die-cutting and some embossing and I like how it turned out: like a good dose of summery fun.

Rooted in Nature for As You See It 211 - Design Team Card

Welcome to a new challenge at As You See It. In keeping with our new roster of challenges, after Recipe week, it's theme week. It's a great theme this week: trees. How will you see it? Autumn trees? Evergreens? Christmas trees?

One of my favourite sets is Rooted in Nature, partly for its versatility. It doesn't scream Christmas but it makes very fine Christmas trees. I've paired them up with some of the gorgeous Wrapped in Plaid DSP. Not only does it come in rich colours, such as Shaded Spruce and Cherry Cobbler, but it incorporates lovely accents of gold.

After I stamped the trees in Shaded Spruce, I penned on some Versamark then embossed them with white embossing powder mixed with Ice glitter. In real life, there's a lovely glimmer from the glitter in the 'snow'.

The sentiment is from my top pick from the Holiday Catalogue: Itty Bitty Christmas for its many versatile greetings.

We'd love to see what you do with this challenge. Visit the As You See It Challenge blog to see what the rest of the team have done and to link up your entry.
