Season of Chic for AYSI 304

This week at As You See It, it's 'fill in the blank' week. Summer. As I sit here watching the winter rains fall and double check the heat pump to make sure it's working, it seems a long, long way away! But I do love summer and then I love nothing more than spending some time at the beach.

I love wandering along the sand seeing what the tide has brought up. I like to pick up sea shells. So off the stamp shelf came Season of Chic since I really like the sea shell images and die cuts in it.

Originally, I had my cluster of seashells and seaweed on a plain background but then got inspired to add in some texture. I used this folder from the Basics 3D Embossing trio (online exclusive) because of the South Pacific feel of the images although, now I see it photographed, I'm beginning to regret the decision! Be assured, it's less strong in real life!

Once again, I'm reminded of what a fantastic product the Distressed Gold DSP is - just perfect for so many situations.

What's the best thing about summer for you? Why not make something and show us? You can link up your entry, and see what the rest of the team have done, right here.

Fun on Wheels for Colour INKspiration 148

Welcome to the latest challenge at Colour INKspiration! This earthy palette was chosen for us by Crew Member Brenton Golley.

If you haven't played with us before, we are a group of Stampin' Up Demonstrators from the South Pacific. Challenges are shown and entered via our Facebook Group page. If you don't belong, and would like to, click here. Don't forget to answer the three easy questions you'll be asked when you ask to join the group.

Each challenge, Top Picks and a winner are chosen by the crew and the winner offered a chance to Guest Design with us for a future challenge. We welcome Bev Evans as Guest Designer for this challenge.

If you don't have an exact challenge colour, feel free to replace it with whatever you have that's closest, for example Copper Clay for Cajun Craze. Black, White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand and metallics are free colours, as are flesh toned Stampin' Blends.

This colour palette got ma thinking masculine because for me, one entry point to a male-suitable card is colour choice. I'll often choose an earthy palette for my guy cards. Another entry point is set choice. While Fun on Wheels is totally suitable for a woman, it works really well for males too. So in happy combination, I ended up with this quick and easy male card....

Although quick and easy, the layering and use of background stamping and DSP give it a stylish look. The cute bike dies are pretty fun too! You can view details of the Fun on Wheels bundle right here.

If you'd like to see how I made this card, then here's a video tutorial for you. If you've never extended a die to stretch around a sentiment, be sure to check out that segment of the video. You won't believe how easy it is!

We'd love to have you join in the challenge with us. Visit the Colour INKspiration page to check out the album of Crew Cards for inspiration. You can also add your entry there. We all enjoy seeing what you do with our colour palettes, so join in!

Just My Type for CAS Colours and Sketches 516

I'm sharing with you today a quick and easy card that I made in response to the latest challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches - another of my favourite challenges.

I'm rather taken with the Just My Type stamp set. It's full of quirky fun images that can be combined in various ways. It came to mind when I saw the sketch at CAS Colours and Sketches.

I started by stamping the typewriter in Pebbled Path, then added in some curled-edge paper and put a love heart on the paper in Moody Mauve. Then it was a quick fussy cut. While I was at it, I stamped an envelope in Pebbled Path and fussy cut that too.

Although I seldom use DSP, it seemed to suit this challenge and I added a 4.5cm strip of Moody Mauve DSP. I put the typewriter on top, then popped up the envelope on a dimensional

I stamped the 'hello' stamp in Pebbled Path, then punched each letter out with my 3/4" punch. Sadly, it has retired but if you have on in your stash, it's just right for this stamp. They're popped up on dimensionals.

The final addition was three Moody Mauve In-Colour  Dots

So, it's a nice quick and easy card and one that could be done in pretty much any colour combination. Maybe next time, I'd skip the love heart in favour of a plant or flower instead.

Earthen Textures for Stampin' Fancy Friday

 Hi everyone,

Just a quick post to share with you my latest project for Stampin' Fancy Friday, the Instagram Inspiration  brought to you by a group of past and current Stampin' Up! Artisan team members.

Our challenge this month was to CASE a fellow team member. I chose to CASe the fabulous Coastal Crafter, Emma Goddard.  Here's her original card.

Isn't is fantastic?!

Here's my take on it. Despite the use of a different set and different colours, I think the parentage is clear!

Every day, there's a new inspiration for you - a different Artisan take on another Artisan -  so if you haven't already, make sure to follow @stampinfancyfriday!

If you'd like to see how to make this tropical take on Earthen Textures - and see just how quick and easy it is - then here's a video tutorial to show you how.

Beauty of the Deep for FMS 594

I was sitting at my desk today wanting to have a second date with Beauty of the Deep. Luckily inspiration came in the form of the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches

It's funny how things change as you craft. In my head, I started off toying with watercolour, sponging, soft greens and maybe some heat embossing and vellum in there somewhere. Not quite where things ended up!

As I started playing around, I remembered the first time I went snorkelling in Fiji. We went out in a boat to what seemed like the middle of the ocean and went over the side of the boat. After swimming out just a little way, we were over the top of the most vibrant, colourful, alive coral reef. It was beautiful! The pastels went away and the brights came out to play instead!

I masked off a portion of the front and sponged it with Balmy Blue and Azure Afternoon. I removed the top mask then I stamped some seaweed in Azure Afternoon. I stamped the tall seaweed in Starry Sky and coloured it with Tahitian Tide Stampin' Blends. Then I removed the bottom mask and added in some Melon Mambo kina.

The large seaweed was stamped in Shaded Spruce and coloured it with Parakeet Party. Then the front circle is represented by the die-cut coral. I cut one Basic White and one Tahitian Tide then offset them before attaching them.

The sea looked a little empty without any fish, so I added in a fish by the sentiment. The sentiment and the label for it are from Something Fancy. Finally, I added a trio of blue dots from the Tinsel Gems four- pack.
