Seaside Notions for Retro Rubber 153

Welcome to the new challenge at Retro Rubber. We like to encourage you to go back and visit old favourites, so our only rules are that you must use at least one stamp that's a year or more old AND tell us the approximate age of it.

This time, our challenge is a Tic Tac Toe - so just play one of the lines.

I set out to play the diagonal, Birthday - The Ocean- Blue, but it turns out I've also played the top line of Birthday-Patterned Paper-Gems and the left column of Gems-Colouring-Blue!

I'm using an old favourite of mine, Seaside Notions, which first appeared in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalogue.

I started with a piece of Seaside Spray DSP. Although it's probably meant to be tree bark pattern, I thought that in this orientation it could pass for swirls of water. I stamped directly onto the paper the cluster of shells and seaweed then coloured them with Stampin' Blends.

I stamped the sea horse on a scrap of Whisper White, coloured it with Stampin' Blends then fussy cut it out.

It's a simple little card and one that you could give to a male or a female.

You can see what the rest of the team have done and link up your entry by visiting the Retro Rubber Challenge site.

Seaside Notions and So Sentimental for CI86

Welcome to a new challenge at Colour Inkspiration. We've got a lovely, refreshing natural palette for you this time around: Coastal Cabana, Shaded Spruce and Pacific Point.  Isn't it lovely?

If you haven't played with us before, we are a group of Stampin' Up Demonstrators from the South Pacific. Challenges are shown and entered via our Facebook Group page. If you don't belong, and would like to, click here. Don't forget to answer the two easy questions you'll be asked when you ask to join the group.

Each challenge, Top Picks and a winner are chosen by the crew and the winner offered a chance to Guest Design with us for a future challenge.

If you don't have an exact challenge colour, feel free to replace it with whatever you have that's closest. Black, White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake and metallics are free colours, as are flesh toned Stampin' Blends.

These colours got me thinking a little nautical this time. I created a rich background so that the bold sentiment would shine out.

I started with a piece of Shimmery White cardstock and sponged it with Pacific Point, Shaded Spruce and Coastal Cabana, progressing from darker to lighter as I moved up the page.  Then I gave it a fine mist of water with a spritzer. After adding in a little more colour in places, I splattered it with larger drops to lift some colour. To complete the background, I stamped three images from Seaside Notions in the three colours.

The lovely sentiment is from So Sentimental and cut with the coordinating Stitched So Sweetly dies. Isn't it great the way the stitched edged label wraps around the sentiment like this? I've sponged very lightly around the edge in Pacific Point. The finishing touches are three of the stunning new Blue Adhesive-backed Gems: there's a hint of gold and of a rich Pacific Point blue and some strands of  frayed Braided Linen Trim.

We'd love to see what you make of these colours. You can add your project, see the other entries and look at the Design Team inspiration by clicking here.

Seaside Notions for Retro Rubber

This week at Retro Rubber we have a theme challenge for you. Create a summer themed card, using at least one stamp that's a year or more old. Don't forget to tell us how old your retro stamp is.

Since today is a cold and miserable winter's day, the prospect of writing up a summery card is quite appealing! For me, summer means long days at the beach. Beaches lead me to sea life and finally to Seaside Notions. This is one of my favourite sets from the 2019 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue, so this stamp set is just a year old and I'm delighted that it is carrying over into the 2020-21 Catalogue.

For this card, I masked off a strip of the card front and ink-blended Pacific Point, Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana before spritzing it with water to lift some of the colour. Then I stamped the bubble stamp in Bermuda Bay over the top. Finally, I flicked a little clear Wink of Stella over the whole card front to create a watery background for the seahorses.

I used Stamparatus to mirror stamp the seahorse so that I had one facing each way. They were silver embossed and coloured with Stampin' Blends.

We'd love to see what you do with this challenge. You can see what the rest of the team have done and link up your entry at the Retro Rubber Challenge site.
