Dashing Deer for Retro Rubber Challenge 122 - Design Team Card

This week at Retro Rubber Challenge, Claire has created a sketch for us to play with. Of course, since this is Retro Rubber, you do need to use at least one stamp that's a year or more old and give us an approximate age for it.

It's not too early to be thinking of Christmas cards. Although there are lots of wonderful new sets in the Holiday Catalogue, the great sets keep you coming back to them. Dashing Deer and the matching Detailed Deer dies, from the 2018 Holiday Catalogue, are just such ones for me. If you missed out on them last year, they're still current and you can find them in the 2019 Annual Catalogue - or you can visit my online store by clicking the link in the sidebar.

The trees, stamped in Silvery Shimmer pigment ink, are from 2018's Rooted in Nature.

I liked Claire's sketch so much that I made a couple of cards with it before choosing one for my Design Team card. If you'd like to see the other, it uses the same set - Dashing Deer - and it's here.

To see what the rest of the team have done with this sketch, and to link up your entry, pop over to the Retro Rubber Challenge site.

Dashing Deer for Inspire. Create 54

This week, the challenge at Inspire. Create. is Die Cutting.

I love die cuts and I know that the day I decided to invest in a die-cutting machine was the day that my paper crafting moved on to a new level. This Christmas card ended up being more die-cutting than stamping but I've just got so many lovely dies!

I started by patinating a piece of Whisper White. The embossing folder I used was Tin Tile and the colours used were Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, a touch of Early Espresso and gold embossing.

I think that dies fall into two camps: plain and sexy. While the sexy ones are show stoppers, it's the plain ones that are the most used.

The Stitched Shapes dies are a case in point. How plain is a circle? Yet how amazing is the little stitched edge on the circle that steps up any card you choose to use it on. Same with the Layering Circle dies. That's the largest scallop shape sitting in behind, just quietly adding a flash of colour that helps tie the design together. The same goes for Stitched Rectangles. It's another of those plain die sets that quietly add elegance and interest without drawing attention to themselves.

The Christmas Layers dies and Detailed Deer are in the 'sexy' camp. They draw the eye and scream for us to look at them. They make a great accent or focal point.

If you live in New Zealand and would like to add to your die collection, then message me or visit my on-line store by clicking the SHOP NOW icon in the sidebar, or on any of the items in the product list.

You can join up with Inspire. Create. until 27 October.

As You See It 206 - Design Team Card

Welcome to the new challenge at As You See It! This week, we have what I always think of as a recipe challenge. A bit like that cooking show, Chopped where contestants get a box of ingredients and you have to put them all together into something delicious.

So, the challenge is to create a card that uses stars, a die cut, ribbon, red and Christmas. And it's only July!

I'm so pleased that Dashing Deer has carried over into the new catalogue. This set was my favourite from last Christmas. I just love that stamped and die-cut stag - I can't get enough of him!

The only tricky thing is that if you want to pop him up off the page, it can be hard to get the dimensionals under the antlers. I get around that by die-cutting the stag out of thick white cardstock a couple of times and layering them together. It also gives the delicate antlers more strength - less likely to get ripped.

I've used a couple of retired items from my Christmas stash. The Lucky Stars embossing folder is a keeper and is great for Christmas cards like this. I also found a couple of the gold stars and some narrow gold ribbon that added a final touch to the deer's ribbon and the greeting. The DSP is from the scrap basket.

How do you see this challenge? We'd love to have you show us and you have the next fortnight to share in with us. You can see what the rest of the design team have done here.

If you live in New Zealand and don't have a demonstrator, I'd love to be yours. I can help you with ideas and provide you with Stampin' Up products. As You See It 188 - Design Team Card

I'm feeling very happy with this week's challenge because the As You See It Speed Challenge is my favourite! That's because when I first discovered this challenge, it was a speed challenge and I'd never encountered such a thing before. They don't happen often but they're fun.

So this time, it's a Shades of Red Speed Challenge.

Here's how it works. You have to make a card, using only shades of red, in UNDER TEN MINUTES.
Thinking time isn't counted and you can have your stamps and gear assembled but the clock starts the moment you cut your first piece of card or ink your first stamp.

So, this card was done in 8 minutes, 56 seconds.

The very morning I set out to do this challenge, I got a box of goodies which included this set, Dashing Deer. I couldn't wait to play with it. Isn't that patterned deer just gorgeous?

This is such a quick Christmas card to make and pretty with it.

What will you do for your Shades of Red, Under Ten Minute card? We'd love you to show us what you do. You can play along with the As You See It team up until Wednesday 14 November.

If you live anywhere in New Zealand and don't have a Stampin' Up demonstrator, I'd love to help you with ideas and Stampin' Up products. Please message me through my Facebook page, linked in the sidebar of this blog or leave a comment below.

And, of course, you can shop with me from anywhere in New Zealand by clicking any of the products pictured below or the SHOP NOW button in the sidebar of this blog or you can message me.
