Colour Inkspiration 53 - Crew Card

Welcome to a new challenge at Colour InkspirationIf you haven't played with us before, we're a group of Australian and New Zealand Stampin' Up demonstrators. You can play with us by joining in our Facebook group here which will let you play along, comment and vote for your favourite from the top 5 selected by the crew.

This time it's another pretty combination: Petal Pink, Mint Macaron, Bermuda Bay, Night of Navy, Whisper White and a touch of metallics.

I've created a concoction of bubbles using Playful Backgrounds, repeat stamped and embossed in gold. Then I've used Stampin' Blends in Petal Pink, Bermuda Bay and Mint Macaron - both light and darks - to colour the bubbles.

The 'celebrate' is stacked three deep. I used some gold shimmer paint mixed into a spray to give a touch of bling to it. The 'lets' and 'you' are masked out of one of the stamps in Itty Bitty Birthdays and the 'Happy Birthday' is from the same set.

I stepped things up a bit by creating an easel card. Here it is closed up for the envelope.

Next on our inspiration blog hop is the lovely Julia Quinn, who also has a fancy fold to show you.

If you live anywhere in New Zealand and don't have a Stampin' Up demonstrator, I'd love to help you with ideas and Stampin' Up products. Please message me through my Facebook page, linked in the sidebar of this blog or leave a comment below.

The Paper Players 419 - Design Team Card

It's Clean and Simple week at The Paper Players this week which means there's not only a theme but a crafting style to think about. LeAnne's got us thinking of a sweet treat as our theme. Then think about using lots of white space, minimal layers and embellishments... aim for an uncluttered, clean look.

Cake is definitely a sweet treat! I've coloured the cake and stand, popped them on a funky striped background and added a strip of coordinating paper along the side. Simple and clean. I made this card last week before going to On Stage but if I'd just waited a little bit, I could have had a whole new cake set to play with....

I particularly like the Iridescent Ice icing on this cake.

Visit the rest of the Paper Players team to see what they've done , then join in with us!

Here's a quick reminder of our few rules.
  1. Create a new paper project.

Retro Rubber 67 - DT Card

Well, there's lot of ways you can go with this week's challenge at Retro Rubber - Rainbows.

So, please join in our Rainbow Challenge - we'd love to see what you do.

Connie and Mary 431

I came home from work tonight in the mood to make something pretty. The sketch at Create with Connie and Mary was just the thing.

I felt as though I'd been ignoring this year's in-colours. And I have, because I'm just unsure about how much I like them. So, for a challenge-within-a-challenge, I decided to make myself use them.

In the end, it turned out to be so cheerful, that I just had to make it a get well/cheer-up card.

Ingredients
Card: Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum
Stamps: Papillon Potpourri, Playful Backgrounds, A Dozen Thoughts (retired)
Inks: Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum

Male card CCMC310 and PPA416

A quite off-hand comment by one of my card class women about not often making male cards resonated with me - probably out of all proportion to how she meant it. But I realised that I shied away from cards the might suit men. My menfolk, not being either petrol heads, hunters or having a single drop of DIY in their DNA,  don't automatically scream that I should use 'male' stamp sets.

Even so, I took the self-imposed challenge using three sources of inspiration: the new Thoughtful Banners set I'd recently purchased, the sketch challenge at Pals Paper Arts and the colour challenge at Create with Connie and Mary.

As an aside, Tip Top Taupe always makes me smile because, in New Zealand, Tip Top is the leading brand of ice cream.

The marriage of these things lead to...

It's turned out quite well and I think that with different colours and bit of bling that it would make a pretty good girl card too.

Ingredients
Card: Dapper Denim, Mint Macaron, Whisper White
Stamps: Thoughtful Banners, Playful Backgrounds
Inks: Tip Top Taupe, Mint Macaron, Dapper Denim
Other: Banner punch, circle framelits, dimensionals, Dapper Denim enamel shape.

As You See It 138 - DT card

This week's challenge at As You See It is a challenge to honour Canada Day.

Here in New Zealand, we have recently had a referendum over whether or not to change our flag. At present it has a Union Jack in one corner and the rest is a stylised Southern Cross in colours of red, white and blue. During the pre-referendum debate, the stylish simplicity of the Canadian flag and the ease with which it is recognised was often brought up. One of the popular options discussed for us was our silver fern on a black ground although that didn't quite make it to one of the final options to be voted on. All a storm in a teacup, as status quo ruled. Anyway, I've used the red and white as my theme for this challenge.

While looking for inspiration for this I came across the sketch challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments, where I sometimes play. It was a great sketch and I enjoyed using it.

So please, join us on our Canada Day theme - or just red and white theme - over the next two weeks. You have until Wednesday July 13 (PST) to show us just how you like it!

Ingredients
Card: Whisper White, Real Red
Stamps: Butterfly Basics, Playful Backgrounds, Endless Birthday Wishes
Ink: Real Red, Tuxedo Black
Other: Butterfly thinlits, White candy dot and brad base, Silver cord, Elegant Dots embossing folder, dimensional.
