The final challenge in our revolving rota is the Speed Challenge. It's one of my favourites because it's not often we have to work under time pressure. This time round, Jane has chosen the theme of pumpkins or gourds.
This is how the speed challenge works. You need to create something new on the given theme in ten minutes or less. Before you panic, the ten minutes does not include thinking time, getting out the necessary equipment or clean up. But once you take the first cut or ink the first stamp the timer must begin. Don't forget to tell us how long you took with your entry.
The theme did cause me some trouble given that I own not a single pumpkin stamp or piece of pumpkin theme DSP. But at the suggestion of our team leader, Heather C, I started looking at punch art as a solution. There are many tutorials around on how to use an oval punch to create a pumpkin so that's what I did. As this was part of gathering equipment, this time didn't come out of my ten minutes, although actually making one did!
The Delicate Details Treat Bags are a great speed solution as it's just a matter of removing the tape to put them together... that's right, they come already taped!
So all that was involved was to punch 5 ovals from some Pumpkin Pie card and sponge the edges with some Pumpkin Pie ink. After gluing them together in a pumpkin-like shape, I added in some Garden Green tendrils which were cut using one of dies from the Ranunculus set.
The sentiment is stamped on Pale Papaya and is from the Art Gallery set.
If I'd had a little more time, I'd have added in some bling but the ten minute mark was looming so I resisted!
The time taken was 9 minutes 37 seconds. We'd love to see what you can create in ten minutes or less. Visit the As You See It Challenge site to see what the rest of the team have done and to link up your entry.
