So while daydreaming of the beach, the idea for a card to match the sketch came along.
I've said before that By The Seashore was the first ever SU set I got. In fact, it was the first stamp set I ever got fullstop and I've had used it so much, it was a good investment. Here I've stamped it onto Crumb Cake with Early Espresso and Island Indigo and then sponged the edges after fussy-cutting them out. The Espresso starfish I stamped off first so it would be a different shade.
I'm very pleased with the Hardwood panel. It's Pool Party on Pool Party and I finger stamped it so that it would be a little bit patchy and would look more beach-weathered. I also sponged the edge. By far the fiddliest bit was getting the baker's twine into a circle without getting glue over everything. Slow and steady won that race!
I really enjoyed interpreting this sketch and it's turned out to be a good masculine card, although fine for women as well. But I still wish I was at the beach!
Update: Delighted that this card was picked as A Cut Above at Paper Players.

ReplyDeleteThis is outstanding - it really popped in the gallery at The paper players. Super job on the sponging to create that wonderful background behind the stamp.
ReplyDeleteThis card is STUNNING!!! I actually feel warmer, just looking at it...and that's saying something because it's zero degrees outside where I am!!! Thanks for sharing this with us at the Paper Players this week!
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a lovely comment! Our winters are certainly not as cold as yours.

ReplyDeleteLove your cards. The colours are beautiful together and just looking at it I wished I were somewhere at the sea. TFS!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the detail on your card - the shell embellishments, the bakers twine framing the window, the vellum sentiment banner; it makes me want to be at the beach too! Your card is so beautifully executed. Thanks so much for joining us for our sketch challenge over at The Paper Players this week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful way to combine the stamp sets, Jan. Along with the soft, serene color palette, I'm ready to hop a flight to the beach myself. So glad you joined us this week at The Paper Players! :)
