Global Design Project 197

This week's colour combination at Global Design Project is both subtle and pretty. It pairs up two of this year's new In-Colours, Seaside Spray and Terracotta Tile, with an old favourite, Pear Pizzazz.

This is what I did with them, using my latest purchase, Seaside Notions.

The water effect was stamped using the new Birch background stamp. For the marine life, I used an aquapainter and ink to colour the images. My fussy cutting skills got a bit of a work out with Seaside Notions but worth it, I think!

Then I couldn't resist adding it an extra layer to ground the sea-life cluster using one of the fabulous shapes from the Tasteful Backgrounds die set. That's backed with a piece of Pear Pizzazz, also stamped with Birch.

Colour Inkspiration 57 Crew Card

Time passes quickly and it's already time for a new challenge at Colour Inkspiration. If you haven't played with us before, we're a group of Australian and New Zealand Stampin' Up demonstrators. You can play with us by joining in our Facebook group here which will let you play along, comment and vote for your favourite from the top 5 selected by the crew.

What a fabulous set of colours to help brighten - or warm - our midwinter. Today, it was a relief to get into my craft room, which was all toasty warm, while the wind, rain and cold chased each other around outside!

I've always loved playing around with inky, spongy backgrounds. A recent post by the ever-fabulous Paula Dobson reminded me that I haven't done that for a while so that was the starting point for today's card.

I started out by blending Smoky Slate and Seaside Spray onto shimmery white cardstock, which I chose because I was adding water. I used a brayer to apply the ink which is something I've only every used once before. I usually use sponges.

When I was happy with the coverage, I used a spritzer to apply a fine mist of water over the paper and quickly dabbed up the moisture with a piece of handitowel. I like the fine mottled effect this produces as well as the variety of sizes in the splotches.

Once the paper was dry, I stamped over the top part of it using one of the stamps from Artisan Textures using Seaside Spray ink. Then I tapped over some splatters of Wink of Stella to give a bit of shine.

I stamped the trees in Early Espresso, using a post-it note to protect the bottom of the page from unwanted tree trunks. I sponged in a ground line using a dauber then sketched in some grass with the Early Espresso Stampin' Write marker.

CAS Colours and Sketches 328

It's been a while since I played at CAS Colours and Sketches but the beautiful colour combination this week forced me to find a snip of time for it. 😀

I used the Forever Lovely stamp set and matching dies, Lovely Flowers. This is such a delicately beautiful romance set. The star of it is the way the two-step floral spray has the option of adding a glorious fretwork die-cut overlay, which I've used here.

The spray and overlay are so gorgeous, they need little else. The overlay die also adds embossed curlicues and foliage as it cuts. Very clever and very pretty! I've added some tiny Petal Pink flowers, which are part of the die set. The sentiment, from Itty Bitty Greetings is popped up on dimensionals.

As You See It 206 - Design Team Card

Welcome to the new challenge at As You See It! This week, we have what I always think of as a recipe challenge. A bit like that cooking show, Chopped where contestants get a box of ingredients and you have to put them all together into something delicious.

So, the challenge is to create a card that uses stars, a die cut, ribbon, red and Christmas. And it's only July!

I'm so pleased that Dashing Deer has carried over into the new catalogue. This set was my favourite from last Christmas. I just love that stamped and die-cut stag - I can't get enough of him!

The only tricky thing is that if you want to pop him up off the page, it can be hard to get the dimensionals under the antlers. I get around that by die-cutting the stag out of thick white cardstock a couple of times and layering them together. It also gives the delicate antlers more strength - less likely to get ripped.

I've used a couple of retired items from my Christmas stash. The Lucky Stars embossing folder is a keeper and is great for Christmas cards like this. I also found a couple of the gold stars and some narrow gold ribbon that added a final touch to the deer's ribbon and the greeting. The DSP is from the scrap basket.
