Magnolia Mood for Colour INKspiration 178

Welcome to the 178th challenge at Colour INKspiration. Today's colour palette was chosen for us by Crew Member and Stampin' Up! Artisan, Vicki Boucher. Aren't the colours just so soft and pretty?

If you haven't played with us before, we are a group of Stampin' Up Demonstrators from the South Pacific. Challenges are shown and entered via our Facebook Group page. Each challenge, Top Picks and a winner are chosen by the crew and the winner offered a chance to Guest Design with us for a future challenge. We're delighted to have not one but two Guest Designers: Janette Goodall and Yvonne Spikmans - Van Bruggen.

If you don't have an exact challenge colour, feel free to replace it with whatever you have that's closest, for example Peach Pie for Calyspo Coral. Black, White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Basic Beige and metallics are free colours, as are flesh toned Stampin' Blends.

This challenge is open for two weeks and closes Monday December 9, 7pm AEST.

Well, I just couldn't help myself. I took the obvious path and went with a floral card. Really, what's the point in having beautiful floral stamps if you don't use them? 😀

I got out Magnolia Mood  bundle from the Online Exclusive section. These products are ones that can only be seen online and not in any paper catalogue. It's worth a browse in here as you might well discover some things you thought had retired! You can view the online exclusives here.

I stamped the large spray of flowers and two buds in Old Olive then coloured them with Calyspo Coral and Soft Sea Foam Stampin' Blends. After die cutting them out, I also cut the large spray die in Soft Sea Foam to create a background of lacy leaves.

The fun part was layering up my various stamped images and die cuts to create the bouquet. The Basic White panel was embossed with the Dotted Circles 3D embossing folder. Striking, isn't it?

The sentiment is stamped in Old Olive and I used a die from Everyday Details to create the label. To create the Calypso Coral jewels, I coloured some Basic Rhinestone Jewels with the darker Calyspo Coral Stampin' Blend.

Magnolia Mood for Colour INKspiration 176

 

Welcome to the 176th challenge at Colour INKspiration. Australia has just the best of birds - isn't this one a real beauty?! Crew member, Lou Kitzelman, said it is an Australian Pink Robin. She's given this to us as the inspiration for the latest challenge.

I loved this bright colour combination - maybe I was just carried away by the beautiful robin! I saw flowers in these colours and I turned to the Magnolia Mood bundle straight away.

I stamped the large flower and cone images in Tuxedo Black, then coloured them with Stampin' Blends in Petunia Pop, Crumb Cake and Granny Apple Green before die cutting them out. 

The front card panel I embossed using the Painted Texture folder and it is attached to a Petunia Pop card base. 

I cut a circle using the Spotlight on Nature dies which I added to one edge of the card front, trimming off the excess at the left hand side. The sentiment is white embossed on Basic Black cardstock, which is cut with one of the Unbounded Love dies.

I added in some Silver & White Sheer ribbon in a bow under the sentiment and finished off with three Petunia Pop Shimmer Gems from the In-Color Shimmer Gem pack.

The most time spent on this card was my havering around over whether to go for a Basic Black card front with a black-on-white sentiment! Otherwise, this is a pretty straightforward card. I think the design lends itself to a whole host of colours.

Magnolia Mood for Paper Players 702

Welcome to a new challenge at The Paper Players. I'm delighted to share this one with you as this is the first challenge I've had the pleasure to set as part of the Paper Players team. I picked these colours because they're just so pretty together and I love them. I'm excited to see what everyone does with them. 

Feel free to use white and black as well as an additional neutral such as Basic Beige, Very Vanilla, a gray or Crumb Cake/ Kraft. If black or white is your chosen neutral, then that's fine too.

This colour combo is perfect for florals - and I do have a soft spot for them. I went to Magnolia Mood, one of the Online Exclusive bundles. While I adore the large stamped image in this set, I've grown to appreciate this small flower die cut too. 

 

Then there's my favourite embossing folder, Exposed Brick 3D, for the background.

I also made use of the Spotlight on Nature bundle. The lovely decorative edged circle is from that set and I used the splatter stamp to add some interest to background of the circle.

The white flower die cuts were coloured with Flirty Flamingo and Lemon Lolly using a mix of sponge daubers and blending brushes.

The sentiment is stamped in Basic Gray ink because I like that it's just a bit softer than Tuxedo Black, especially when working with  subtle colours. The label is from the Unbounded Love dies.

The Basic Rhinestone Jewels were coloured with the dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blend to give them a pink tinge.

Magnolia Mood for FMS 647

Winter cold plus rain equals craft room time! So, using the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches for inspiration, I tried to overcome my phobia around mixing patterns.

When I'm cardmaking, I like to have LOTS of lovely open space, lots of crisp white and a clean look. However, after looking at the sketch, I decided to work on my fear of pattern mixing and see where I ended up.

I used the Neutrals 6x6 DSP stack as my starting point, having decided that if I couldn't use white, I could at least use neutrals... taking baby steps here. 😀

I stamped the lovely large image from Magnolia Mood, coloured it with Bubble Bath, Soft Sea Foam and Lemon Lolly Stampin' Blends. After die cutting it, I also die cut a few leaves in Gray Granite and a decorative circle using Spotlight on Nature dies.

The sentiment is from Unbounded Love and the embellishments are the elegant Basic Gray and Smoky Slate Pearls.

Magnolia Mood for Freshly Made Sketches 641

Fun Friday for me is to play with a challenge, so for inspiration I looked no further than the latest offering from Freshly Made Sketches.

I'm still enjoying the Magnolia Mood bundle and this sketch drew me to it again.

I stamped, coloured and diecut out the large magnolia image and one of the smaller conebud images. They are coloured with Stampin' Blends in Old Olive, Fresh Freesia and Highland Heather with a touch of Daffodil Delight. I added in some extra die cut leaves to fill out the arrangement.

I masked off a 2cm deep section of the card base and then sponged with Daffodil Delight ink. Hard to see in the picture is the fine splattering of Wink of Stella I added at this point. Once the mask was removed there was a line of clear space. So then I had to be brave and stamp the sentiment directly onto the base!

After mounting onto a Fresh Freesia card base, I added in a trio of gems from the Purple Fine Shimmer Gem  pack to finish off. Got to have a little bling, right?

Magnolia Mood for CCS 537

I've got a class this weekend featuring the Magnolia Mood bundle, so it's been on my mind the last few days. So when I saw the sketch at CAS Colours & Sketches today it was a bit of a lightbulb moment! 

I'd been trying to think of something to showcase the rather pretty single die cut magnolia flower that's part of the Magnolia Mood bundle - and suddenly... there it was!

I lightly sponged the centres of the flowers with some Flirty Flamingo ink and filled the centre with a Basic Rhinestone Jewel.  Aren't those textured die cut leaves great too?

I tried various things for the horizontal strips but settled on stamping the magnolia bud stamp in Garden Green onto Basic White then cutting it into strips. I'd originally intended to leave the card front totally plain but just couldn't help myself - the paper almost put itself into the Exposed Brick 3D embossing folder and then attached itself to the card base! 😉

Magnolia Mood for JAI 702

In keeping with my resolution to get back to doing craft things just for fun, I decided to join in with the challenge at Just Add Ink. It's been far too long since I played there.

I was having a bit of a play around with Magnolia Mood and wanted to use parts of the set that were not the absolutely stunning large magnolia image. The sketch was perfect in that it was asking for smaller imagery. 

It's really a simple card. I stamped three of the bud images in Basic Gray, coloured them with Pretty in Pink and Old Olive Stampin' Blends then die cut them.

The circles were cut using the Spotlight on Nature dies, and the two with cut outs I backed with Old Olive circles cut with Stylish Shapes dies.

The sentiment is from Country Birdhouse and cut with banners from Stylish Shapes.

The background is embossed with my favourite folder, Distressed Tile 3D.

Magnolia Mood for Around the World on Wednesday

 

Welcome to a new hop with the crew at Around the World on Wednesday. On the second Wednesday of each month, the team put together a thematic hop to give you some inspiration for your own crafting. We love it when you try out something new or CAS(E) one of our projects. The team is truly international, with members from each time zone of the world that Stampin' Up! operates. You're with me, in New Zealand - the first place in the Stampin' Up! world to change the date. 😀

This month, our inspiration is a sketch challenge. I love a sketch - they're my favourite kind of challenge because I find a sketch really gets me thinking and the ideas flowing.

I'm really enjoying the Magnolia Mood bundle, which is one of the Online Exclusive products. Online Exclusives exist outside of any catalogue. You'll only find them in the Online Exclusive section of the online store. It's worth a look as you'll not only find new products but also a few things you thought had retired too. 😀

For the three vertical strips of the sketch, I used three narrow strips of DSP from the new Country Woods range. I used the Timber 3D Embossing Folder to carry on the wood theme. I used Petal Pink Stampin' Blends to colour the flowers and Old Olive for the leaves. I added in some die cut leaves in Old Olive to fill out the focal point.

My favourite ribbon is Linen Thread. With its warm, natural look it was perfect for the rustic feel of this card.

Magnolia Mood for AYSI 320

Our last challenge at As You See It, the Speed Stamping Challenge, is the last on our rotation so this week we're back to the start with a Sketch Challenge. This sketch is one of my contributions, so I'm particularly keen to see what everyone does with it! 

Sketches are my favourite types of challenge. I find they get ideas flowing really well. I also love that the same starting point can end up in so many different looks. 

For this one, I rotated the sketch to a landscape orientation. I used two snippets of DSP from the Nature's Sweetness pack: one gold foil, the other a textured-look Pebbled Path.

Then for the circular element (which can be pretty much any shape that's vaguely circular-ish) I stamped and coloured the largest image from Magnolia Mood. I stamped the image in Pebbled Path thenused Stampin' Blends to colour it before die cutting the image out. I stamped a second image but only coloured the large bloom, which I fussy cut out and popped up over the original flower to add some dimension.

The sentiment is from Something Fancy, as is the die for it. The embossing folder is the Cross Hatch design from the Basics Embossing Folder set in Online Exclusives.
