Trusty Tools for Around the World on Wednesday September

Welcome to Around the World on Wednesday's September hop.

On the second Wednesday of each month, the team put together a thematic hop to give you some inspiration for your own crafting. We love it when you try out something new or CAS(E) one of our projects. The team is truly international, with members from each time zone of the world that Stampin' Up! operates. You're with me, in New Zealand - the first place in the Stampin' Up! world to change the date. 😀

This month, we're doing something a little different. It's five years since Around the World on Wednesday started up, so we're doing some close-up looks at the team. This month, we're going to CASE team member Bree Renwick but also using the theme of remember when...

So I've gone back to Bree's first project for Around the World on Wednesday and CASED that.

I've retained the wide border with tone-on-tone stamping. Since I couldn't decide whether to  use Lemon-Lime Twist or Azure Afternoon, I made one of each!

I also kept the layered centre panel with the sentiment going off to the right and with a die cut over the left hand end of the sentiment from Bree's card.

I've used Trusty Tools stamps and dies and The Right Words for the sentiment.

Keep on hopping to see how the rest of the team have CASEd Aurelie.  Next up is the wonderful Leonie Stuart from Australia. I'm sure she has a treat to share with us!

If you live in New Zealand and don't have a Stampin' Up Demonstrator, I'd love to be yours. I can help you with ideas, get you catalogues and provide you with Stampin' Up products. You can leave a message in the comments or contact me using any of the methods listed in the Contact Me tab at the top of the page.

You can shop with me from anywhere in New Zealand here.

If you get lost around the hop, or want to revisit, here's a blog roll for you.

Gallery Blooms for Around the World on Wednesday

Welcome to Around the World on Wednesday's July hop.

Aurelie Fabre was a founding member of the team so this month we're all going to CASE one of her projects.

But our team leader, Angie McKenzie likes to keep us on our toes, so in addition to CASEing Aurelie, we're also using a Tic-Tac-Toe board.

After browsing through Aurelie's blog, I found this card to CASE. So pretty, isn't it?

So armed with this gorgeous design and the centre column of the Tic Tac Toe board (Circle-line-repeat), this is what I came up with....

I used the very pretty floral spray image from Gallery Blooms. I repeat stamped this using Gray Granite ink then coloured each repeat using Fresh Freesia, Old Olive and Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends. I die cut them out.

Aurelie's original card had a soft splatter of colour behind her repeated daffodils. I added in some soft splatter in Daffodil Delight but also some lines of text. Both the splatter and lines of text come from a set that I'm finding indispensable: Elements of Text.

After completing the background stamping on the card front, I arranged the die cut blooms over it, then trimmed off any overhang before attaching the card front to the Gray Granite card base.

I replaced Aurelie's sentiment label with a stitched circle from Stylish Shapes. The sentiment, stamped in Gray Granite, is from Beautiful Motifs - a sentiment only companion set to Gallery Blooms.

As beautiful as the Brushed Brass Butterflies from Aurelie's original are, I replaced them with some Antique Pearls for a more vintage feel.

Keep on hopping to see how the rest of the team have CASEd Aurelie.  Next up is the wonderful Leonie Stuart from Australia. I'm sure she has a treat to share with us!

Gallery Blooms for Around the World on Wednesday

Welcome to Around the World on Wednesday's April hop.

Anne Marie Hile was instrumental in helping our founder, Angie McKenzie, get the hop up and running so this month we're all going to CASE one of her projects.

I decided to hunt the archive and went right back to Anne Marie's first ever post for Around the World on Wednesday. This is her card from 2020.

And here's my 2025 CASE of it, using some pre-order products from the 2025-2026 Annual Catalogue.

As you see, I took Anne Marie's layout literally. I substituted some of the gorgeous Beautiful Gallery DSP for her original embossed panel. Let me tell you that went against the grain for me as I almost always go for texture over pattern! But it was just too beautiful to leave out.

I replaced her flowers with some from Gallery Blooms and I coloured them with Stampin' Blends in Lost Lagoon, Peach Pie and Calypso Coral. I stamped the flowers and sentiment in the same colour as the card base, Secret Sea - one of the 2025-2027 In Colors.

CASEing Anne Marie also got me using some of the Basic Beige ribbon from the Beautiful Gallery suite - even though I'm not usually a user of ribbon either! The embellishments are Pressed Flower Motifs, also part of the suite, all of which will be available from 6 May.

Keep on hopping to see how the rest of the team have CASEd Anne Marie.  Next up is the wonderful Leonie Stuart from Australia. I'm sure she has a treat to share with us!

Seaside Wishes for Around the World on Wednesday February

Welcome to the second hop of the new year at Around the World on Wednesday!

Our task this month is to interpret this sketch. I do love a sketch challenge - and I also love seeing all the different ways the same sketch turns out in the hands of different creators.

Perhaps it was the prospect of an upcoming beach holiday, but I've been playing with the Seaside Wishes bundle a bit lately. It seemed a perfect choice for this sketch.

I started with a Misty Moonlight card base. The Basic White card front was embossed with the Seaside Wishes hybrid embossing folder, but used as a straight embossing folder. I stamped a the bubble/sand stamp in Pool Party around the centre section.

For the circular element of the sketch, I embossed and cut one of the large sand dollars using the hybrid embossing folder (which lets you cut and emboss at the same time) from Crumb Cake. I sponged around the edges to highlight the texture and too make the shape appear more three-dimensional.

I built up a cluster of sea life by die-cutting the skeleton shell shape in two sizes. The largest is in Misty Moonlight, while the smaller is cut in white and has Misty Moonlight ink added to it. Then I stamped a large and small starfish on Petal Pink, in Petal Pink and die cut them.

To finish the cluster, I added a Linen Thread bow in the position suggested in the sketch.

For the horizontal elements of the sketch, I cut three narrow strips of DSP from the Country Woods collection.

The sentiment, stamped in Misty Moonlight, is from Country Birdhouse

I added in three blue tinsel gems to finish off.

Keep on hopping to see what the rest of the team have done with this great little sketch. Next up is the wonderful Leonie Stuart from Australia. I'm sure she has a treat to share with us!

Pretty Petals for Around the World on Wednesday January 2025

Welcome to the first hop of the new year at Around the World on Wednesday!

Our task this month is to present a 'this or that'. Our team leader, Angie, has given the challenge of trying something two ways. Well, I don't know about you but I often have 'this or that' moments in my making: this label die or that? this colourway or that? this sentiment or that?

This time, I was experimenting with a new bundle from the Online Exclusives section, Pretty Petals. I'd overlooked this bundle when it was first shown in preorder last year but after seeing the work of the Artisan Design Team - and particularly the work of our own team member Mikaela - it somehow made it's way into my cart.

So, my big 'this or that' is to do with colour: a bright combination or the more subtle 2024-6 In Colors?

In each card, I did the same things, just with different colours. Using Fluid 100 Watercolor paper, I stamped the foliage, then added in the flower stamps. Using a Waterpainter, I went over the stamping to create a kind of no-line watercolour effect. Then I painted in some touches of a third colour using reinker.

I die cut out using the largest of the Perennial Postage dies and used watered down re-inker and Water Painter to add in the splatters of colour.

The sentiment is from Cheerful Daisies and the label is from the matching dies.

Finally, I added three embellishments.

Which do you prefer?

1. Subtle In Colors?

Colours: Shy Shamrock, Pretty in Pink, Peach Pie.

2. More Regal and Bright?

Colours: Garden Green, Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie.
Embellishments: Glossy Dots Assortment.

Isn't it amazing the difference a change in colour can make?

Keep on hopping to see what This or That the rest of the team have been experimenting with. Next up is the wonderful Leonie Stuart from Australia.
