CASology 324 - Holly

It's been a while since I've had the time to play challenges. This week's cue card at CASology, along with the Rachel's design team card, had me getting out my toys to play along.

Half Full is a set I bought because I often give wine as a gift - as you do when you live in wine country - and it had lots of potential for tags and cards. It's so versatile that it's even got Christmas options and I've been wanting a chance to try those out. I know, nearly out of time on that one - but there's always next year!

I made two variations. One includes the bottle and one uses the debossed side of the folder.

In both, the wine is coloured over with clear Wink of Stella that gives it a shimmery sparkle. I've used coloured pencils for the rest.

I like them both but my favourite is the one with the bottle.

The bit that makes me smile is on the inside.

I can't quite believe that I did all my other Christmas cards without remembering this wonderful 'Merry Christmas' was there waiting for me! Another case of 'next year'.

The Paper Players 406 - Design Team Card

Welcome to Sandy's Fruit and Vegetable challenge. This week at The Paper Players, it's Clean and Simple week, so don't forget that in addition to using the theme you also have to use the style. So, Clean and Simple: minimum layers, lots of white space, few embellishments.

This one was a real challenge for me since despite owning quite a few stamps, not one of them was a fruit or a vegetable. My stamp-sharing friend offered me her only fruit stamp - which was bunch of bananas. Three days and many binned efforts later, it was pretty clear that the bananas and I did not get along!

Inspiration came in the depth of the night when I realised that my newly purchased and as-yet un-inked set, Half Full, contained a bunch of grapes as part of a larger tag stamp.

Step one was taping off the rest of the stamp so that I could get a bunch of grapes on the card.

Then I masked off the grapes so that I could add in the glass to look as though it was in behind the grapes. After masking the glass as well, I added in the ink-blended circle which is Daffodil Delight to suggest the sunshine with some touches of Granny Apple Green to pick up the colour in the leaves. I used Layering Circle framelits to cut the mask for the circle.

Since I had the grape idea going, it seemed natural to base it on to a piece of Gorgeous Grape. I used the limited release coloured pencils to colour the image: Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green and Garden Green. Don't miss your chance to get these pencils as they are only available for certain for the month of August.

As Gorgeous Grape is the colour of grapes but not really the colour of a Merlot or Shiraz, I added in mixed it with Rich Razzleberry for the wine and added in some touches of Razzleberry to the grapes as well.

Living in wine country as I do, I know a lot of people who'd love a wine-inspired birthday card like this so I'm happy to add this to my stash.

At The Paper Players, we'd love to see what Clean and Simple Fruity cards you come up with.
