New In Colors for Paper Players 797

I'm delighted to welcome you to a new challenge at The Paper Players because I'm the hostess this week. I've got a theme challenge for you which I hope will appeal: For the Little Ones. So maybe you need a card or two for some new babies in your life (and their parents) or maybe you need a birthday card for a tot in your life. Or maybe you need a 'No reason except that I love you' card for that special grandchild, godchild or niece/nephew. For whatever reason you need a something for a little one, then this is your challenge.

There are some births imminent in my world at present, so I thought I'd go for the baby card option. As I usually do when I go for a baby card, I make a boy, girl, gender neutral option while I'm at it.

This year's In Colors work well for this with Hydrangea Hue, Barely Blush and Golden Glow. I used patterns from the 2026-2028 Painted Patterns DSP to create the little onesies. I still love the retired All For Baby set with the cute collection of baby clothes and accessories - such as the tiny hangers - for my baby cards, so that's what I've used.

To frame the clothes collection, I used the Party Banner dies, cutting a second in the key colour to create an edging top and bottom. The tiny hearts come from All for Baby and I've given them a little sparkle with some Wink of Stella.

For the background embossing, I used the retired Crazy Crochet 3D folder, as it has the look of a handmade baby blanket about it.

To finish each card, I used a trio of the matching In Color Dots.

A Blast from the Past for The Paper Players 782

Thank you to everyone who played along with my colour challenge last week. It seems lots of people enjoyed the bold colours because there were wonderful cards in the gallery and choosing my Headliner was difficult.

Christy has a Clean and Simple theme for us this week at The Paper Players. It's a double challenge: create something with a Baby Animal theme AND create in a Clean and Simple Style.

At The Paper Players, by Clean and Simple we mean minimal layering, minimal use of embellishments and lots of open space.

As soon as I saw Christy's theme, I knew exactly which (retired) set I wanted to use. Little Elephant was such a favourite of mine, especially for baby cards. Maybe it was my need for a baby card that brought the set to mind but once I'd thought of it, I couldn't see my way to using anything else. I'm sure a few of you will have it sitting in your stamping library too. 😀

Anyway, I also thought it was a good chance to try out some of the new In-Colors that will be available 5 May. When I first saw them, I thought they'd make good baby cards so I gave four of the five a run.

In each of the cards, the sponged grass line is in Peaceful Pine, which is a really useful green unlike any of our current greens.

Then I went for a boy card, a girl card and a gender neutral card using Hydrangea Hue, Barely Blush and Golden Glow. Note the new ink pad design, which at the moment is only available for the new In Colors but will coming to other colours over time.

The little hearts in each card are in Barely Blush, and I used coordinating embellishments for each colour.

Originally, I'd planned on just using the elephant scene and sentiment on a coloured base but I let myself be persuaded to add a strip of In Color Painted Patterns DSP to each one as well. CAS or not-CAS? What do you think? I think I'm on the CAS side of the cusp. 😀

All for Baby for Paper Players 734

Wasn't Stef's colour challenge last week a lot of fun? Thank you for all the pretty entries.

This week, Elizabeth has a Clean and Simple challenge for us on the theme of ... bunny!

Some challenges are more challenging than others. It turned out that I'd sold my one set with a bunny in it. After much hunting through stamps and dies and stacks of paper, I found a tiny bunny die in the retired On the Farm bundle. What could I build around that and in a Clean and Simple style?

The answer to that involved more exploration of the retired set shelf. I'd kept the retired All for Baby bundle because it's the perfect baby set. The current Cutest Onesie bundle is like a pared down version of it.

So armed with these bundles and some DSP stacks in Neutrals and 2024-6 In Colors, I went to my desk and started my creative engine. This is where things ended up....

The bunnies and hangers are cut from Crumb Cake. The pink card is Pretty in Pink and the blue uses Misty Moonlight.

I hope you have better luck in finding a bunny on your craft shelves! Don't forget that in addition to the bunny, you need to keep your style CAS: minimal layers, lots of clean white space and few embellishments.

On the Farm baby card

Butterfly Brilliance et al for AYSI 282

Welcome to the latest challenge at As You See It and after recipe week, it's always theme week. I hope you like this theme because I chose it way back in January when I was in the first flush of being a first-time Grandma!

I've been thinking a lot lately about how to best build your stamp collection when you first start out. I always advise people to look for something 'versatile'. This is something you often hear but what does it actually mean? I think it means looking for images that could easily be used for different occasions by changing up the colours and/or the sentiment. For that reason, I often suggest that a good first or second set is something floral, foliage or butterflies and a set with a variety occasions in the sentiment.

So, although I have a couple of excellent baby specific sets, I set out to make something without using them to illustrate the point. 😀

I used the Butterfly Brilliance set and coordinating Brilliant Wings dies. Instead of a sentiment set, I used something similar. I used the new Alphabest bundle, which lets you create your own wording. The 'hello' is from a set in my stash, Forever Fern.

Since I was making baby cards, I stuck with pastel colours, one each of So Saffron, Pool Party and Blushing Bride. You could choose whatever colour you like with this layout.

Around the World on Wednesday September 2021

Welcome to this month's Around the World on Wednesday blog hop. If you've not visited us before, we hop on the second Wednesday of every month with a theme to inspire you. It's 'around the world' because we represent each time zone that Stampin' Up! operates in: from New Zealand (me) all the way around through Australia, Europe and North America to Hawaii.

This month's theme is 'Changing Seasons' which I think is a great theme since it's open to so many interpretations. It it literally changing from winter to spring for me and for others around the world, summer to autumn. But it's the seasons of life that interest me most at the moment. Partly, it's because of the recent sudden death of a beloved brother. But mostly, it's the prospect of becoming a grandmother for the first time soon. Both those things both remind me that maybe summer's revels now are ending but that a new season is beginning.

So that's what's lead me to this trio of baby cards. A new beginning, a new season as my girl becomes a mother and I become a grandmother - fittingly, in the New Year.

I've used the lovely All for Baby bundle from the 2021 Annual Catalogue for these cards, all with the same layout but with variations.

The baby girl card uses Blushing Bride, the heart die cuts for accents and Tasteful Textile 3-D as the background embossing folder. The embellishments are Elegant Faceted Gems.

The baby boy card is done in Balmy Blue, uses the star die cuts as accents and the Macrame 3-D embossing folder in the background. I like the Macrame 3-D folder for this as it looks to me like a lovely warm baby blanket.
