Colours of the Rainbow for The Paper Players 776

Welcome to the latest challenge at The Paper Players. We had such wonderful entries last week for Christy's Mythological Creatures theme - even Easter Bunny made an appearance! I'm sure you'll love this week's colour challenge from Joanne - Colours of the Rainbow. Of course, you can use rainbows if you would like to but all you need to do is to use the colours of the rainbow in some way.

I looked forward to playing along with this challenge when I saw it coming up on our team page. Then I suffered some creative paralysis, mainly because I had too many ideas and they were all screaming for attention.

I often think that when in doubt, start ink blending. So that's what I did. I made me a rainbow page! I blended down a Basic White card front, moving from Real Red through Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Blueberry Bushel and finally Highland Heather.

So, next question. What to make with the paper? Well, probably my favourite dies of all time (at least today) are the Brilliant Wings dies. Sadly, they're retired but it's not like they disappeared in a puff of smoke. So I got them out and cut three butterflies making sure to get some on each colour. Then I cut out a matching one from Basic White and layered them together at the abdomen so the wings were free.

Next question. What will they sit on? That was easy since one of the loveliest die cuts in the current product range is the leaf die from Nature's Symphony. I cut it twice from Basic White then adhered it to the Basic White card front, cutting off the overhanging bits. I used some of those leaves to fill gaps.

The butterflies were added to the leaves in order to preserve the layers of the rainbow. Because I attached the white underlayer to the card front, the wings of the coloured butterflies are floating. I added in some small rhinestones along the abdomens to give them some shine.

Final question. What's the sentiment going to be? As the card progressed, it felt like it should be either a sympathy, thinking of you or get well. I'd had in mind from the start this sentiment from the new Online Exclusive set, Delicate Whispers. After testing out a few other sentiments, I came back to this idea. I stamped it in Basic Gray, as that's a bit warmer than Tuxedo Black, and used the smallest rounded rectangle die from Nested Essentials. I wish now that I'd popped it up on dimensionals so it could compete more with the other half of the card - but I didn't. Next time!

How will you play with the colours of the rainbow? You can see what the rest of the team have done and link up your entry at The Paper Players.

Butterfly Brilliance et al for AYSI 282

Welcome to the latest challenge at As You See It and after recipe week, it's always theme week. I hope you like this theme because I chose it way back in January when I was in the first flush of being a first-time Grandma!

I've been thinking a lot lately about how to best build your stamp collection when you first start out. I always advise people to look for something 'versatile'. This is something you often hear but what does it actually mean? I think it means looking for images that could easily be used for different occasions by changing up the colours and/or the sentiment. For that reason, I often suggest that a good first or second set is something floral, foliage or butterflies and a set with a variety occasions in the sentiment.

So, although I have a couple of excellent baby specific sets, I set out to make something without using them to illustrate the point. 😀

I used the Butterfly Brilliance set and coordinating Brilliant Wings dies. Instead of a sentiment set, I used something similar. I used the new Alphabest bundle, which lets you create your own wording. The 'hello' is from a set in my stash, Forever Fern.

Since I was making baby cards, I stuck with pastel colours, one each of So Saffron, Pool Party and Blushing Bride.  You could choose whatever colour you like with this layout.

You can see how I made these cards in this video.

You can see what the rest of the team did with these ingredients and link up your own entry at the As You See It Challenge page. We'd love to see what you do with this theme!

Butterflies and Masks for CAS Colours and Sketches

Today was winter wet, cold and miserable. So what else to do, but spend a bit of time in the craft room? The clouds literally had a silver lining today.😀

First up, I checked out what was on offer at CAS Colours and Sketches as it's another favourite challenge site of mine. I remember playing in their 100th challenge, so it's great to see them still going strong.

I was pleased to see it was sketch week, since a sketch is just the thing to get me started when the creativity levels are down!

I layered two of the masks from the Artistic Mix Decorative Masks to create a focal panel. I used Fresh Freesia and Starry Sky.

Originally, I intended to use some flowers or foliage dies to put against the stencilled panel but the Brilliant Wings dies are just so gorgeous, I couldn't resist using butterflies after all. I cut one from Fresh Freesia and one from Starry Sky and layered them together.

The sentiments is stamped directly on to the background in Starry Sky. A few Iridescent Basic Rhinestones finished off the simple card.

Artistic Mix Decorative Masks for FMS 542

Perhaps I'm just a great procrastinator but despite having many things to get done, I couldn't help but sit down and play the latest sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.

Today's card is simple and bright. I used one of the masks, without any overlaying, to create a rainbow across the card front.

I cut two butterflies from the Brilliant Wings die set and layered them together before attaching them to the front of the card.

The sentiment, from the Art Gallery set, is white embossed onto Basic Black and die cut with the smallest of the Stitched Rectangle dies. The embellishments are Iridescent Pearls, a new item from the 2022 Annual Catalogue.

Update: Delighted to be the Queen of Clean at Freshly Made Sketches!
