Fun on Wheels for PP747

I hope every one enjoyed Ann's pretty colour challenge. I certainly enjoyed looking at the creations! Thanks for playing along with us at The Paper Players

This week, LeAnne has a double challenge for us: something with wheels AND in a clean and simple style.  I suspect that for many of you, the hardest part will be keeping things clean and simple (CAS).

By CAS, we mean: minimal use of layers, minimal use of embellishments, lots of open white space.

Looking through my 'current set' shelf, I found not one thing with a wheel on it. So it was time to move to my 'retired' shelf aka 'my stamp library'. Fun on Wheels really was a fun set and I keep it because it's so good for teens with the scooter and skateboard, and the cyclists in the world with a couple of options on offer.  Plus, I love the map stamp, which I've repeat stamped in Azure Afternoon.

I stamped the vintage cycle in Versamark and embossed it with WOW Black embossing powder before die cutting it and putting it  over the maps.  I love the way this image looks as if it's coming out of the page straight at you.

If I'd realised when I started how the design would evolve, I'd have embossed the cycle straight onto the card front: another option to get a similar result.😀

I black embossed the 'Happy Birthday' sentiment from The Right Words then cut it out with a banner die from Stylish Shapes. The embellishments are Basic Rhinestones coloured with Azure Afternoon Stampin' Blends.

What sort of wheels will you play with this week? You can see what the rest of the team have done and link up your entry on The Paper Players page.

Here's a quick recap of our challenge rules:
  1. Create a new paper-craft project specifically for this challenge.
  2. Upload your creation to your blog with a link back to us.
  3. Please provide a direct link to the post featuring your challenge entry.
  4. Please link your card to no more than four challenges, TOTAL, including ours
  5. Have fun, and thank you for playing with us!
Don't forget to check out the great inspiration from the rest of the design team.

Fun on Wheels for AYSI 307

This time around at As You See It, it's the challenge you either love or loathe - the speed stamping challenge. If you've never done this before, all  you have to do is create a project on the given theme IN TEN MINUTES OR LESS! Before you have a total meltdown at the impossibility of doing that, here's what you should know. The ten minutes is from the moment you physically begin crafting. So thinking about what you're going to do, gathering and setting out your supplies do not count. So you can block up your stamps, get the dies out and put them by the machine, make sure there's glue in the container, come up with a genius idea, get the paper out before the clock starts. However, the moment you cut the cardstock into a base, ink up a stamp or crank the handle of your machine then the clock is ticking!

The theme for this challenge is hobbies, so I went straight to Fun on Wheels. I don't quite know what I was thinking but I thought I'd use the eclipse technique for this card - cutting out the die cut from the base and putting it back in but raised up.

For a speed challenge, it would have been far quicker to have stamped up the road maps, stamped the bike on a separate piece of paper, die cut it and adhere it! Instead, I stamped the bike onto the card front, die cut it out then stamped the road maps, then put the bike back in on dimensionals. Along the way, I'd forgotten about the pieces around the bar and handlebars that came out of the die - so had to hunt the bin, find them, stamp them separately and add them in!

The really nerve-wracking part was that then I had to back myself to stamp the sentiment straight! Note to self - next time, stamp the sentiment first! 😀

Then it was a mad dash for the piece for the inner and a quick addition of a bicycle before adhering it.

I'm not sure how, but somehow, time was still on my side. So I added in some Tinsel gems in dark blue.

And then it was time to stop the clock....

Having got to the end and berated myself for bothering to eclipse the bike, I'm actually glad I did because in real life, there is a pleasing little show of Tahitian Tide showing around the cycle that would be missing if I'd just attached the die cut to a stamped map.

Anyway, we'd love for you to join in our speed challenge and show us what you can do in under ten minutes! Pop over to the As You See It site to see what the rest of the team have done and to link up your entry. You can play along with us until Wednesday September 20, 11.59 PST.

Fun on Wheels for Colour INKspiration 148

Welcome to the latest challenge at Colour INKspiration! This earthy palette was chosen for us by Crew Member Brenton Golley.

If you haven't played with us before, we are a group of Stampin' Up Demonstrators from the South Pacific. Challenges are shown and entered via our Facebook Group page. If you don't belong, and would like to, click here. Don't forget to answer the three easy questions you'll be asked when you ask to join the group.

Each challenge, Top Picks and a winner are chosen by the crew and the winner offered a chance to Guest Design with us for a future challenge. We welcome Bev Evans as Guest Designer for this challenge.

If you don't have an exact challenge colour, feel free to replace it with whatever you have that's closest, for example Copper Clay for Cajun Craze. Black, White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand and metallics are free colours, as are flesh toned Stampin' Blends.

This colour palette got ma thinking masculine because for me, one entry point to a male-suitable card is colour choice. I'll often choose an earthy palette for my guy cards. Another entry point is set choice. While Fun on Wheels is totally suitable for a woman, it works really well for males too. So in happy combination, I ended up with this quick and easy male card....

Although quick and easy, the layering and use of background stamping and DSP give it a stylish look. The cute bike dies are pretty fun too! You can view details of the Fun on Wheels bundle right here.

If you'd like to see how I made this card, then here's a video tutorial for you. If you've never extended a die to stretch around a sentiment, be sure to check out that segment of the video. You won't believe how easy it is!

We'd love to have you join in the challenge with us. Visit the Colour INKspiration page to check out the album of Crew Cards for inspiration. You can also add your entry there. We all enjoy seeing what you do with our colour palettes, so join in!

Fun on Wheels for AYSI 303

As night follows day, at As You See It Challenge a colour challenge always follows a sketch. It was fantastic to see so many great takes on my sketch in the gallery. Let's see what you all make of this colour challenge, given to us by team member Heather Heroldt.

I found this combination a little bit - well - challenging! No idea seemed to jump out at me as demanding the use of these colours. While looking through my 'not yet tried out' shelf, I came upon the Fun on Wheels bundle and the idea of a pair of brightly coloured cycles came to mind. So this is another 'First Date' card!

As you see in the product picture, the dies let you build up a bicycle in different stages and colours. I think there's some future fun to have there! Keeping in mind the challenge colours, I made the base from Gray Granite, the wheels from Crumb Cake and the frames in Poppy Parade and Tahitian Tide.

I took the map stamp and covered over the Poppy Parade card front with it, using Poppy Parade ink for a subtle do-it-yourself DSP background.

For the white embossed panel, I wanted to create the idea of a roadway. So after measuring out how much room I needed to fit the bikes, I scored a line top and bottom with my Paper Trimmer. Then I used the Cross Hatch folder from the Basics 3D Embossing Folder pack (from the On Line Exclusives) and embossed each side of the line in two passes of the Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine. Quite effective, don't you think?

Be sure to pop over the the As You See It Challenge page so you can see what the rest of the team have done with these colours and to link up your own entry.
