The Paper Players 404 - Design Team Card

It's theme week at The Paper Players and Laurie has chosen one that I'm sure will bring out some great creations.

I have to confess to being a bit of a fantasy/sci-fi geek so I couldn't resist the Time Traveller set from Kindred Stamps. How could I pass up Doctor Who-inspired stamps?!

I remember as a child, cowering behind my grandmother's sofa as the Daleks pursed Doctor Who - in glorious black and white - across the television screen, with their robotic voices chanting, "Ex-ter-min-ate! Ex-ter-min-ate!" It tickled my fancy to have that turned into a birthday greeting.

Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker were the Doctors of my childhood. I've been lucky enough to share Doctor Who with my children too: Peter Davison with my eldest and then the greatest Doctors of all, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, with the younger ones. It will be interesting to see how the new female incarnation of the Doctor works out.

The choice of red and gold was not completely random - the Supreme Dalek of the New Dalek Empire was red with golden orbs. Poppy Parade and Daffodil Delight seemed red and gold enough, although I probably should have made his eyetube blue.

Inspiration for this card also came from the sketch at Sunday Stamps. You can join their challenge up until 10 August.

We'd love to have you join us at The Paper Players this week. Have a look at The Paper Players to see what the rest of the team have done, then why not join in?

  2. Jan, I had to come check out your blog to see if the reference was what I thought it was...and I was right! Dr. Who! This post just brought back so many memories all at once! I used to watch in the 80's with my brothers...when Tom Baker was the fourth Dr. Who with the big coat and hat and the curly hair! This card is totally fun, and I really got a kick out of it! Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. This is so cool!! I was never a huge fan of Doctor Who and when I was younger those Dalek things scared the cr*p out of me (much like Land of the Lost....do you remember that??). This is brilliant and as soon as I saw it I read those 3x celebrate out loud with the horrible Dalek voice!!!

  5. What a fun card, Jan! I've not watched Dr Who, so I guess I miss some of references. However, I can still imagine the robotic voice saying Cel-e-brate!

  7. I just love this Jan - I feel the need to start running around the house chanting your sentiment as I relive childhood dalek-impersonating memories! Fab fun and bright colour scheme too - this card would go down a storm with Dr Who-lovers!

  8. How fun! I can't say that I've watched Dr. Who myself (although of course heard of it). I'll have to take your word on it. I love how the birthday greeting is pronounced in robot speak. Thank you for joining Sunday Stamps this week.
