Retro Rubber Challenge 105 - Design Team Card

This week at Retro Rubber Challenge, we're very excited to be partnering with Try Stamping on Tuesday. We are using their sketch for our current challenge. As always, you must use at least one stamp that's older than a year and give us an approximate age for it. It's double the fun for you as you can link your entry to both challenges if you want to. As I was perusing my shelves, looking for some inspiration, I saw Perennial Birthday and realised that it hadn't come out to play for a while. It just squeaks into the 'older than a year' category, having first appeared in the 2018 Occasions Catalogue in January last year.

I've picked a bold colour combination: Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green, Black and a tiny touch of the retired Pink Pirouette.

In place of the three banners, I've used some of the small floral stamps that are part of the set.

I've used Stampin' Blends to colour in the outline stamps and after masking them, added in some of the Granny Apple Green dots. The smaller flowers, some of which are in Pink Pirouette (retired), are popped up on mini-dimensionals.

JAI 455 and Fusion Rainbow Cupcake

Just a simple card today, even if it was inspired by two challenges. With a month still to go in Sale-abration, I was looking for ways to use Hello Cupcake, one of the reward stamp sets.

Fusion has a sketch and an inspiration photo, while at Just Add Ink, the challenge is to add embossing.

The Fusion inspiration photo lead me to using Hello Cupcake, the colours used and the layout. Just Add Ink added the next level: a texture embossed background using the Scattered Sequins folder, creating faux ribbon using the Subtle folder and the heat embossed swirly white icing.

I masked the cupcake and sponged the background before cutting it out with the Stitched Shapes framelit.

I've embossed the icing onto vellum, fussy cut it and popped it up on dimensionals. The embossing gave enough places to hide the dimensionals while providing the necessary support - although a little creative dimensional cutting was required.

I've used texture embossing two ways. Firstly, I used the Scattered Sequins folder for the background. Secondly, after adhering two the strip of Daffodil Delight to the Melon Mambo, I ran them through the Big Shot using the Subtle dynamic impression embossing folder to give the appearance of ribbon.

Finally, some silver sequins were added to visually bring together the sentiment and image and to pick up the sequins from the embossing folder. Quick and easy!

The Paper Players 429

This week it is CAS week at The Paper Players and it's exciting: to use shades of the same colour.

I chose blue and used only two shades: Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel. It was also a first outing for a new set Beach Happy from the Occasions catalogue.

The deck chair has stamped stripes but the umbrella is paper pieced.

The chair and umbrella were masked off and I sponged over some Balmy Blue. After creating a horizon line with a Post-it note, I added in some Blueberry Bushel to delineate sky from water. Then I added in some stylised wave lines to give the idea of water.

I think it's an all-purpose card: encouragement, retirement, bon voyage, get well, birthday...
