As You See It 197 - Design Team Card

Welcome to a new challenge at As You See It! This week, we have a great sketch for you. I'm sure you'll see the many possibilities. If you visit the As You See It blog, you'll see the super examples that the rest of the ream have done.

As this challenge begins, it's the final few days of Sale-a-bration - your chance to earn fabulous freebies with qualifying orders, which is a great way to make your crafting money go further. So my card uses a number of Sale-a-bration freebies: The Botanical Butterflies DSP, the organdy ribbon combo pack and the Butterfly Elements embellishments.

In fact, I got so carried away with the sketch that I made a whole set of cards using the design. The SAB ribbon pack has five colours in it, so I made one of each colour.

I've CAS-ed an idea from the ever-amazing Paula Dobson. She made some cards where she coloured in the negative space on the black and white butterfly paper. This was an idea I completely loved and have used for these cards. The Stampin' Blends make this so very easy.

The sentiments come from Itty Bitty Birthday and, for the thank you, from Detailed with Love.
The lacy edge is from the Doily Builder thinlit set, a real honey of a set which is set to sell out soon so if you want some - get in quick!

You can play along with us until Wednesday 10 April, 11.55 p.m. PST. We'd love to see what you do with the sketch!

FMS 371 Inkspire Me 384

I'm still enjoying playing around with my new sets from the Occasions catalogue. One set that hasn't had much attention from me yet is Piece of Cake and its matching punch. Time to change that!

For inspiration, I used the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches and the colour combination from Inkspire Me.

The set has many different cakes and topping and sentiments to pick from but I thought there was a richness and formality in the colour combination that suggested a wedding to me. So here's how that turned out...

The cake, stand and cake topper heart are popped up on dimensionals. More difficult to see are the clear epoxy hearts, one on the sentiment and one on the vellum circle. The third is on top of the cake topper heart as it turned out that that heart was just the same size as the largest of the clear epoxy heart embellishments. It's a perfect fit so I put on top to give it some shine.

The black lacy edge is from the new Doily Builder thinlits.

Since the card is square, it required a custom-made envelope. I had some retired DSP in Smoky Slate which I used in the Envelope Punch Board to make the envelope, then I embellished it to match the card.

Just Add Ink 440

Quite fittingly, the first challenge at Just Add Ink for 2019 is to add something new. With the myriad of fabulous new sets in the Occasions catalogue, I was spoiled for choice.

Geared Up Garage is a set I wouldn't normally consider, there being an absence of petrol heads in my family but the super DSP and die cut cogs just got to me. And once I had it my hands... so many things to try.

So this card not only uses new gear but also a new-ish technique. I've ink smooshed before but I've always used window sheet, which is quite rigid. I've read about people who use plastic bags or similar to do the smooshing so I gave that a try for this card. It works well and has a slightly different effect. It's less controlled and more fluid with a more malleable applicator.

After the Mango Melody smooshing was dry, I stamped the car in Tuxedo Black and added in some oil stains in Basic Grey.

A bit of washi tape and a sentiment - done. Simple but effective.

Happy Birthday

Today's card is inspired by no challenge but is inspired by my younger daughter. It was her birthday yesterday. You'd think that New Year's Eve would be a great day to have a birthday but it hasn't turned out that way. Friends are often away on summer holiday and everyone's having a party anyway.

So I gave extra special thought to her card. She likes to craft and has her own beautiful aesthetic. She likes textures. She loves the look of Kraft card. She loves geometrics. She can't get enough of copper accents. So she's my inspiration today with this sneak peek from the almost-here Occasions catalogue.

The bundle is called Dear Doily. I've used some of the stamps to copper emboss the background. Aren't they lovely?

The rather ornate circular frame and the Merry Merlot lacy strip are both from the die set. The striking flower and coordinating die are also part of the set. The only thing not from the bundle is the 'Happy Birthday' which comes from Perennial Birthday.

I'm happy to say that she liked it and it went well with the little gift bag for earrings that I made to go with it - but forgot to photograph.
