Prized Peony for AYSI 239

The new challenge at As You See It is our 'fill in the blank' and here it is....

This was an easy question to answer for me...  the colour I avoid most is Pumpkin Pie. I think I'm still on my first packet of A4 card, so it's lasted me five years - and there's still a half packet there. When I opened up the ink pad (old style) the surface had started to deteriorate so it will probably end in the bin soon so the next dilemma is whether to replace it!

I don't know why I don't use it more - it's a fine colour: rich and earthy. Do you have a colour like that? If so, then this is your challenge. Like me, get it out and show it some love!

This design would work with any colour and with any sentiment, so it's a useful one. I started with a piece of Pumpkin Pie, 10x14.3cm and stamped it randomly with the large bloom from Prized Peony with Pumpkin Pie ink. Then I lay it over top of a piece of Basic Black the same size and cut them both into angled strips, taking care to keep the pieces together and in cutting order on my desk.

Then I took two pieces of Basic Black, 10x14.3cm, and attached the cuts onto it, but alternating between colours so that one panel starts and ends with a stamped section and the other with a Basic Black section. I like a plan that gives me two cards for one lot of effort!

Because I cut precisely to fill the front, the edges were tidy but I always planned to cut the panels down to 13.8x9.5cm so that the panel could be matted and so that if there were any untidy edges, they could be trimmed away.

Then it was just a matter of deciding on a sentiment. Because of the bright colour, I decided against using the sentiments in Prized Peony and instead went for the bold 'thank you' from So Sentimental. To keep up the use of Pumpkin Pie, and to tie the card front and sentiment together, I added in a smaller peony image over the sentiment.

To tie in the gold, and to emphasise the richness of the Pumpkin Pie, I added some Gilded Gems as embellishment.

  1. LOL, I love orange but I admit that Pumpkin Pie is definitely a fall color for me! I love your layout and the way you did the sentiment! Great push through your "least favorite" color!

  2. I'm with you - Pumpkin Pie is definitely not on my 'go to' list Jan and like LeAnne I don't use it outside of autumn/fall barely at all. That said, I love how you used it for your florals! I particularly like the way you balanced the bright orange with black in your modern starburst design; this works so well to balance the brightness and looks totally not a fall card.
