The background watercolour started out as a colour wash in a masked area. Once the tape was removed, I stamped and embossed the leaves then added in more accents of colour to accentuate them. Finally, I overstamped using the script and splatter stamps from the same set. And then, the sequins started begging to be included.
I do think the result does give the idea I started with - a deep, cool pool of water and leaves floating.
I was also inspired by the sketch challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch, which I just couldn't quite get out of my head. The resulting card is perhaps not as CAS as I usually go for but I had such a great time making it, I'll enter it anyway. And the same goes for the Watercolour challenge at CAS-ology.
Update: So very delighted to be a Top Pick at Retrorubber and to get a guest designer offer as well!

Hello Jan: What a beautiful card, love the way you combined our Retro Rubber colors in your water colored wash, looks like a little river where your embossed leaves are floating in, the stamped script and the splatter look lovely too.
ReplyDeleteI think your French Foliage stamp set dates back to the 2010 SU Holiday catalog, this set is a keeper, it's gorgeous.

ReplyDeleteHey Jan!! Great watercoloring and embossing! You did a wonderful job on this cue card.Thank you so much for playing with us this week at CASology.
ReplyDeleteHi Jan! This card is spectacular! The leaves do look like they are floating - are you sure you didn't emboss them on acetate and do an overlay? I keep going back and looking - so beautiful and I want to touch this card! French foliage is one of my very favorite SU! sets. I use it quite a bit! Stunning spectacular card! I am going to give this technique a try! Thanks for joining us at Retro Rubber!
ReplyDeleteEmbossing onto acetate would have been a cool trick - if I'd have thought of it! I think it's the addition of colour shading around the shapes that's done it. :-)
DeleteOh, this is gorgeous! Fabulous take on the sketch!
ReplyDeleteJan, this card is spectacular! Have already pinned it for a future CASE since I, too, have that wonderful stamp set. Love your watercolor wash and the copper emboss (so glad SU brought it back although I still had mine from several years ago! Now if they just bring back Pewter, LOL) Thanks so much for sharing your lovely card with Retro Rubber this week. Always enjoy seeing you in our gallery!
ReplyDeleteThank you Katy, you are very kind. The copper emboss predates my SU association, so pleased to hear things come back! And pewter sounds amazing.
DeleteWow! Your card is beautiful! The leaves look 3D!! You have really shown how these colors are perfect for all seasons. Thank you for playing along with us at Retro Rubber and hope you will be back in our gallery again soon.
