Retro Rubber 120 - Design Team Card

Anything Goes is always a popular challenge at Retro Rubber and I look forward to seeing what everyone gets up to this time round.

Of course, this being RETRO Rubber, although it's anything goes you still need to use at least one stamp that's a year or more old AND tell us the approximate age of it.

I like the way that using older stamps with newer products gives them a new lease on life. In this case, I paired up Love What You Do, from the 2018-19 Annual Catalogue, with the 2019-2021 In Colours to create a set of blank notecards. I like to have some no-occasion cards on hand.

I used the block stamp to colour all the flowers except Purple Posy. As the ink pad is not in production at the moment, I coloured it with the matching Stampin' Blend instead. The flower outline, the foliage, the colour 'blob' and the background blob are all part of the useful Love What You Do set.

As You See It 189 - Design Team Card

This week at As You See It, Amanda has given us a sketch to play with.

When I looked at it, I saw lots of DSP. DSP is something that usually scares me off. I don't often use it, and certainly not in large amounts. More than one pattern really frightens me! So I'm amazed that this is what I came up with.

It's just as well Stampin' Up makes coordination so very, very easy. I bought the luscious Share What You Love DSP paper from the 2018-19 catalogue. Like all our DSP packs, the papers play well together. I needed something to tie them all together, so I picked four papers that used Blackberry Bliss/Rich Razzleberry somewhere in the design. Blackberry Bliss became the base colour and colour for the sentiment. I used the neutral Crumb Cake to mat my four pieces of DSP as it appeared in most of them too.

I used the large die from Stitched Labels so the sentiment had room to breathe against the busy-ness of the background. Then just a couple of Blackberry Bliss faceted gems finished things off.

As You See It 184 - Design Team Card

So this week at As You See It Challenge, it's theme week. Amanda's given us 'Back to Basics.' That's a pretty interesting theme so the first step was to decide just what that meant.

I decided it meant that we should get back to stamping basics. Remember those days when you first started stamping and all you had was some inks, some stamps and some paper with maybe a few bits and bobs left from your sewing or other crafts? Those days when all your stamping stuff fitted onto a single trolley or into one plastic bin? Those days before Big Shots, framelits, folders, heat guns, powders and potions, Stamparatus and Stampin' Blends? In fact, some of my new stampers seem to be quite overwhelmed at the amount of STUFF I have.

For me, this challenge is about going back to the days of just some stamps, inks and paper. 

I did not allow myself a Big Shot (and all the associated gear), a heat tool, or any colouring tools. Simple embellishments such as ribbon or rhinestones were allowed because we all usually start with some of those.

I even scared myself  - could I still do it with just the basics?

The answer was 'yes'  - but I had to resist the urge to upscale it at times: no pretty scallop edge dies or oval frames; no Subtles texture on the base, no pretty colouring with Blends.....

However, I think that it's good to remind ourselves that a good card doesn't always need heaps of expensive gear. How do you see the challenge to go back to basics?

The Paper Players 394 - Design Team Card

I enjoyed seeing the various ways people used the colours in last week's challenge: so much variety and so much skill! This week at The Paper Players, its Clean and Simple week with Laurie's "Blooms" challenge.

We'd love to see what you do with blooms and we want to see a CAS (Clean and Simple) treatment. So - minimal layers, minimal embellishments and lots of clean space.

The stamping over the sponged circle gives the illusion of layers but there's still plenty of clean, white space left to keep that CAS look.

This little bloom stamp out of Love What You Do is rapidly on the way to becoming my favourite item from the forthcoming Annual Catalogue, available for order after 1 June.  I've coloured it with Stampin' Blends here but it colours well using any medium. The Stampin' Blends also turned my rhinestones into Rich Razzleberry rhinestones.
