Ann's CAS Food challenge certainly produced some delicious entries and I enjoyed visiting them in the gallery. Since sketch challenges are my favourites, I'm keen to see what everyone does with LeAnne's pretty sketch this week.
It turns out that, where craft stuff is involved, I'm pretty weak-willed. I was NOT going to buy anymore from the May-August Catalogue but somehow, the Lily of the Valley bundle and Valley in Bloom DSP just fell into my cart and bought themselves! 😁
As luck would have it, this stuff (along with one or two other things) showed up on my doorstep on the day I was working on the sketch.... silly not to try it out, right?
To begin with, I cut a rectangle of DSP. Originally, I picked it for the other side but when putting it together I had a change of heart. Shame, because the other side dictated the choice of Darling Duckling, Garden Green and Granny Apple Green for the flowers.
After attaching the DSP to the Basic White card front, I ran it through the Floral Spray embossing folder. I like it but next time I'll try embossing the white before adding the DSP.
I stamped the leaf outline in Garden Green then used the leaf-fill stamp in Granny Apple green before die-cutting it out. I die cut four of the lily-of-the-valley stems: 1 x Garden Green, 1 x Granny Apple Green and 2 x Darling Duckling. I added some extra colour to the Darling Duckling - one with a light blend and one with a dark blend then cut off the flower heads and added them to the green stems.
I tucked in a piece of die-cut lattice before attaching the flowers to the card front. At the last minute, I added a circle of vellum, cut with Stylish Shapes, just to lower the strength of the DSP.
The sentiment is from the Lily of the Valley set and I've shadowed it with a piece of Pool Party card. To finish off, I added a trio of Shimmering Dots.
I'm very happy these products chose to fall into my cart and I'll enjoy coming up with some more things to do with them!

Jan, this is gorgeous! I love that you embossed the plaid DSP and the background. It adds so much texture. Your lily of the valleys are so sweet. The vellum also softens the whole image. Just lovely! Have a great week, My Friend!
ReplyDeleteI am happy to see these pretty lilies of the valley anywhere, and they are darling on your card! I really love that plaid background too! Thanks for making my sketch shine!
ReplyDeleteThat’s so strange, a similar thing happens to me where craft supplies and books just wander into my house! Glad I am not the only one 😉 Love your beautiful lily of the valley card, the sketch is perfect to showcase it. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteJan, I like your color combination with the addition of Pool Party, the plaid is a lovely background for those gorgeous lily of the valley stems! Clever addition with the bit of lattice at the bottom too. I think many of us suffer from the same strange phenomenon with our carts. I find mine filling up nearly all the time when I peruse an online crafting store!
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to craft supplies, I think weakness is par for the course Jan for all of us! Those yellow bells are so pretty and must admit I didn't realise the background was embossed until I looked more closely - I do love the detail on this EF. This is such a fresh and summery card!
ReplyDeleteJan, great use of the sketch. I love the embossed background and I think the color scheme works beautifully. I have a theory about buying crafting goodies. It's some kind of Jungian collective unconsciousness that all us crafters have. It means we can't help it :-). I, too, am unaware of how these little boxes of wonderful goodies keep appearing at my front door! And all the goodies you inadvertently invested in led to a fabulous take on the sketch!

Jan, what a lovely card! The embossed white panel along with the designer paper adds a unique twist. Using a vellum circle behind a portion of the flowers really allows them to stand out. I love the snippet of Pool Party cardstock behind the sentiment. Of course, the Shimmering Dots add just the right amount of sparkle. This card will brighten up some lucky person's birthday. And what is it about papers and bundles buying themselves? They have done it to me before, too. I have even removed them from my cart, and lo and behold, they jump right back in!
ReplyDeleteJan, I just LOVE Lilies of the Valley! What an adorable die set - and I love the texture you've given your dsp - I wouldn't change a thing!
