Celebrate Sunflowers for AYSI 232 Design Team Card

This week at As You See It, we're back to a colour challenge: it's always colour challenge straight after sketch challenge. It's an interesting selection of colours and we picked them before the new In-Colours came out. I suspect that if we were doing it now, we might have called it as Bumblebee, Cinnamon Cider and maybe even Just Jade. What do you think?

I jot down future challenges in a notebook that I can quickly look up, so when I did this card I wasn't looking at the challenge graphic. Surprise.... Celebrate Sunflowers turned out to be the right choice. I think some of the other members of the team also subliminally channelled the graphic or were reminded of sunflowers by the colours. In any event, we'd love to see what you do with them: sunflowers or not.

Today's card is a straight forward one and it looks great in many different colourways.

I do love that great big sunflower stamp from Celebrate Sunflowers. It's got a pleasing heft and is extremely satisfying to stamp. I started with two stamped directly onto the Whisper White card base. The third, I stamped in Cajun Craze onto Crushed Curry before die cutting it and overlaying the pretty lacy sunflower die.

I used a Water Painter to swirl around the ink to darken the centre of the die cut sunflower. Generally speaking, I don't put water straight onto ordinary card-stock because it tends to pill but if you're quick, and the Water Painter is not sloppily wet, you can (usually) get away with it. 😀

I did use the small sunflower stamp to stamp in Bermuda Bay onto the Bermuda Bay base to add a little more interest to the border.

So you've got until August 26 to play along with us and show us how you see these colours. You can visit the As You See It challenge site to see what the rest of the team have done and to link up your entry.

  1. Stunning Jan - I love that central layered sunflower and the off-the-edge design works really well. Fabulous!

  2. Oh I love these fabulous colours and well, any old excuse to get the sunflowers out I say! I love the way you stamped your card base so that the pattern just shows on the edge and the way you kept your layered images on just one side of the card. Vicky x
