All the stamps used in this card are retro, but none more so than By the Seashore, a set I'll never part with as it was the first Stampin' Up set I ever bought back in 2013. I love the seashells but the starfish is my favourite. They've been stamped, shaded with colour pencils and blender pen and sponged on the edges to help give them more depth. The background grasses are from the recently retired Wetlands and the sentiment from Thoughtful Banners, released in the 2016 catalogue and still current.
The background beach and sky I created with watercolour pencils and an aquapainter.
The Seaside embossing folder really helped to create the beach feel with those lovely sinuous lines.
Here's a quick reminder of the few rules we have at Retro Rubber.
- Use at least one stamp more than a year old and tell us how old it is (approximately)
- Don't link up to more than ten challenges in total.
You have ten days to join us at Retro Rubber for this challenge and we'd love to see what you do.

I love how you've created such a complete scene here, with the embossed part adding the depth of the sea - it balances beautifully, since the top is so detailed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo.
DeleteGorgeous card, Jan! I can see why you like this stamp set! I thought at first it was the new stamp set So Many Shells... but these are different shells! This just goes to show that everything is new again at some point! :)
ReplyDeleteI've only just been with SU long enough to notice that! These shells are the reason I'm not getting the new ones.
DeleteTHis is beautiful! A nice easy sketch that is wide open for anything! I love the beachy theme you chose!
ReplyDeleteThanks LeAnne. I do love the beach.
DeleteJan, nice card, love the scenery you have made with the sketch. To look at your card it looks as though I am looking at the sand with shells laying on it. Love the embossing too.
ReplyDeleteThanks. That's exactly the effect I was hoping for!
DeleteJan, your coloring of the top panel is divine... it certainly provides the watery feel behind the seashore. Love your use of the Wetlands "scrub"... gives a nice wild imagery that many seashores contain. Sea shells are a stash must... so glad you kept this one. I will have to go back to my stash to see which ones I have kept. Great texture with the embossing folder and I adore twine (as you know). Off to pin...
ReplyDeleteIt's a great card, Jan!
ReplyDeleteWell, you loved my coffee card and I absolutely swooned over your nautical card. By the Seashore will never leave my stash either. Your attention to detail and the fantastic watercoloring really made this card over the top gorgeous! I love this card, my friend!! PS: In your comment above you said you won't get the new stamp set and I would encourage you to get it at some point because of the great sentiments that these older set don't have.
ReplyDeleteOMG Jan, I love this, the embossing folder truly did complete the seaside feel of the card. Your watercolouring is perfection too and I really really love the way the shells are popped up a bit. Clairex
ReplyDeleteOh Jan, this is truly beautiful, love those shells on the beach, awesome dimension and texture with the wavy embossing.
ReplyDeleteLove the detail of the twine bow, the colors of your shells matches it perfectly.
This could be a card for any gender but I'm off to pinning it to my masculine board.
Love it.
Hugs,
Maria.
Beautifully done in every detail; the fun twine bow is a wonderful touch !
ReplyDeleteI need that embossing folder! The shells, I think I used to own that set. Why did I part with it? It is beautiful! Your layering and color choices are soooo inspiring!❤️❤️
