Sketchabilities 106

The long summer holidays and the downtime over the last few days have been perfect for scrapbooking. Thanks very much to the Sketchabilities people who keep providing such lovely sketch challenges to keep life interesting in the scrapbooking room. Also thanks to Annelie Maddock from Crazy Monday Scrapbooking, whose blog and Facebook showed me Sketchabilities a few months ago.

One thing that I like to do when I'm scrapbooking is to choose colours from the picture as a basis for the page. This photo, from my husband's much delayed 50th birthday party,  was quite black and white so everything moved on from there. I adored the Authentique paper when I saw it and was delighted to find a reason to get it out of the stash. Actually, everything came out of stash - no shops were visited in the making of this page. :-) Just as well, since most places have been closed!

Last Resolution

The latest sketch challenge on Sketchabilities seemed a good chance to make good on a resolution from New Year 2013 - to do more pictures from my husband's family. I've done a few but this will be the last for the year. The photo is of my husband and his little sister during the Christmas holidays of 1965-66.

My Superman

Surprised at how much I enjoyed participating in Sketchabilities 101, I looked up the latest challenge and decided to give it a go too. My husband is usually very camera shy - a curious male trait - but I managed to catch a couple of good ones recently and used sketch 102 as an inspiration.
Here is the sketch.

Sketchabilities 101

Normally I'm drawn to clean lines and lots of white space in a page, so I was surprised to find that Sketchabilities number 101 seemed to be calling me. I chose to use photos of a recent trip to Wellington and a walk along the waterfront down to Te Papa. The papers were from Authentique, chosen to fit in with the photos and the feel of the event. Everything else came out of the stash drawer. The pegs I got from Typo some time ago, waiting for the right photo. The librarian in me is pretty happy with the recycling of the library book card. My son's a film-maker and musician so the film strip ribbon is right for him and some of the buttons came from my mother's sewing cupboard, kept when I cleared her house.

A Grown-up Daughter

It's been a long time since she was the little girl on her uncle's motorbike down at the farm. This is her on her 30th birthday this year. I really like how this one has turned out. It is so her in colour and style. Really like the way the wooden flourish turned out after being stamped with Perfect Plum then sprayed with Perfect Pearl. I used Stampin' Up Illuminate ink for the mask and to edge the journal tag, which was an effect I'd use again.

Mum and Second Daughter

This Authentique paper is adorable. I like the way the tearing of the paper at the edges turned out and the monochromatic colourway. This was the day we went out to lunch at Black Barn, just before Christmas last year.

Summer Days

Although it doesn't look it, this is a Christmas Day photo from 2011 which was the year Stephen finished high school. Once again, Crazy Monday Kits stuff was really useful. I've got lots of pages out of those kits.
I do especially like the paper perforations in this one. It was a good finishing detail, although the photo doesn't show it so well.
