JAI 441

This week at Just Add Ink, there is an inspiration challenge.

It's such a pretty photo. What I took from it were the soft, pastel colourings with just a touch of a neutral as well as the soft lines. I decided that these translated to Petal Pink, Pool Party and a touch of Highland Heather and Crumb Cake.

I've used two new bundles for this card - I can't help it - still playing with new gear.😀
The Dear Doily bundle might yet turn out to be my favourite. I cut one of the lovely doilies then used it as a stencil to sponge on the Petal Pink background.

I coloured the lavender stem stamp directly with Stampin' Write markers then cut them out.
The Crumb Cake has been embossed using the Subtle folder to give it the texture of linen ribbon and the lacy edge is also from the Doily Builder thinlits.

For the greeting, I turned to the Well Said bundle: so, so many sentiment choices there! Despite the pretty colouring, this card kept telling me it was meant to be a sympathy card so that's what I did.

I cut 'sympathy' twice, once in Petal Pink and once in Highland Heather which peeps out just a touch.

Thanks, JAI team, for a great challenge!

FMS 371 Inkspire Me 384

I'm still enjoying playing around with my new sets from the Occasions catalogue. One set that hasn't had much attention from me yet is Piece of Cake and its matching punch. Time to change that!

For inspiration, I used the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches and the colour combination from Inkspire Me.

The set has many different cakes and topping and sentiments to pick from but I thought there was a richness and formality in the colour combination that suggested a wedding to me. So here's how that turned out...

The cake, stand and cake topper heart are popped up on dimensionals. More difficult to see are the clear epoxy hearts, one on the sentiment and one on the vellum circle. The third is on top of the cake topper heart as it turned out that that heart was just the same size as the largest of the clear epoxy heart embellishments. It's a perfect fit so I put on top to give it some shine.

The black lacy edge is from the new Doily Builder thinlits.

Since the card is square, it required a custom-made envelope. I had some retired DSP in Smoky Slate which I used in the Envelope Punch Board to make the envelope, then I embellished it to match the card.

Just Add Ink 440

Quite fittingly, the first challenge at Just Add Ink for 2019 is to add something new. With the myriad of fabulous new sets in the Occasions catalogue, I was spoiled for choice.

Geared Up Garage is a set I wouldn't normally consider, there being an absence of petrol heads in my family but the super DSP and die cut cogs just got to me. And once I had it my hands... so many things to try.

So this card not only uses new gear but also a new-ish technique. I've ink smooshed before but I've always used window sheet, which is quite rigid. I've read about people who use plastic bags or similar to do the smooshing so I gave that a try for this card. It works well and has a slightly different effect. It's less controlled and more fluid with a more malleable applicator.

After the Mango Melody smooshing was dry, I stamped the car in Tuxedo Black and added in some oil stains in Basic Grey.

A bit of washi tape and a sentiment - done. Simple but effective.

The Paper Players 420 - Design Team Card

This week, we have a sketch for you to play with at The Paper Players.

One of the advantages of being a demonstrator is access to new product before it is generally available. If you go to an On Stage event, it gets even better: you get it even ahead of other demonstrators. So it's been bothering me that my box of new goodies has been sitting largely unused owing to commitments with extra card classes and having taken on some temporary work with school exams. So today, I was determined to use this beautiful bundle from the forthcoming Occasions catalogue for today's Design Team Card.

The Beauty Abounds set combines with the Butterfly Beauty thinlits in a stunning way. The butterfly thinlits layer with each other so can be used separately or together. In this card, I've used both layers and I've snipped out some of them from the bunch to make them the focus of a smaller space. The tiny butterflies and the spray of foliage are extras in the die set.

The set also co-ordinates with one of the Saleabration offerings: Botanical Butterly DSP, which I've used a small sliver of as one of the two rectangular elements. The other one I have self-stamped using a lovely floral spray stamp from Beauty Abounds, which I've also used behind the big butterflies.

I went a bit old-school and broke out my distressing sponges and sponged the edges of all the panels. My favourite Annual Catalogue embossing folder, the Subtle folder, was used as well to give some interest to the background.
