Beauty Abounds for Retro Rubber 155

Welcome to the Retro Rubber's new challenge. This time it's a rainbow theme challenge: use either a rainbow, or rainbow colours, to create your card. Make sure that you use at least one stamp that is a year or more old, and tell us the approximate age of the stamp.

With the posting of the retiring list last week, I've been looking through my shelves and beginning my goodbyes. The Beauty Abounds stamp set and the coordinating Butterfly Beauty dies will no longer be available after the end of April and have been with us since January 2019. It was nice to be reminded of them so I decided to use them for this challenge.

I started with a piece of Shimmery Cardstock and painted a rainbow stripe all over it using inks and a waterpainter.  Once it was dry, I cut out one layer of the Butterfly Beauty die from it and cut the second layer from Whisper White.

Once the two layers were together, I attached them to a piece of Whisper White and added it to a Thick Whisper White card base.

The sentiment, from Beauty Abounds, is white embossed onto Basic Grey card. To finish off the rainbow effect, I added is some sequins from the retired Iridescent Sequins while keeping to the rainbow colours.

You can see what the rest of the team have done and link up your entry by visiting the Retro Rubber Challenge site.

Itty Bitty Birthdays for Retro Rubber 144

This week at Retro Rubber, we have an 'Anything Goes' challenge. Of course, since this is Retro Rubber it's not quite anything goes. You still have to use at least one stamp that's a year or more old AND give us an approximate age for it.

I've made a quick, easy card that is very dramatic because of the black background and brightly coloured die-cut.  However, the design could be made in any colour - maybe Petal Pink on Whisper White for a baby girl?

A couple of years ago, I held a card class where we coloured a white glimmer paper using Brusho and then cut the resulting coloured paper using the Butterfly Beauty dies. The results were spectacular but oh my, it was so, so much easier to just use the new Rainbow Glimmer Paper! Isn't it lovely, the way it moves from colour to colour?

While the Butterfly Beauty dies have been around for a couple of years, the Ornate Floral embossing folder is new as are the 2020-2022 In-Colour enamel dots.

The greeting is from Itty Bitty Birthdays, one of my favourite sentiment sets which came out in the Occasions catalogue, January 2019. The pretty little stitched banner is from Tasteful Labels.

You can see what the rest of the team have done with this challenge, and link up your entry, by visiting the Retro Rubber Challenge site. We'd love to see what you do and what stamps you have in your stash.

Butterfly Beauty dies for TGIF259

The sketch at TGIF Challenge was timely, as I'd been going through my bits box the day before and found a pretty Blushing Bride die cut from the Butterfly Beauty dies. I thought that would be perfect for the overlapping shapes in the sketch and so built the rest of the card from there.

The background piece was embossed using the new Ornate Floral embossing folder. Then I trimmed the edges with one of the dies from Ornate Borders, before gold embossing it with a stamp from Artisan Textures.

The sentiment is also gold embossed, with the tiny heart coloured in with a Blushing Bride Stampin' Write marker. Both the sentiment and the scalloped, stitched edge rectangle are from the Stitched So Sweetly dies, companions to the So Sentimental stamp set.

The final touch was a triple twist of linen thread and matching triple bow.

Thank you TGIF team - great challenge!

The Paper Players 420 - Design Team Card

This week, we have a sketch for you to play with at The Paper Players.

One of the advantages of being a demonstrator is access to new product before it is generally available. If you go to an On Stage event, it gets even better: you get it even ahead of other demonstrators. So it's been bothering me that my box of new goodies has been sitting largely unused owing to commitments with extra card classes and having taken on some temporary work with school exams. So today, I was determined to use this beautiful bundle from the forthcoming Occasions catalogue for today's Design Team Card.

The Beauty Abounds set combines with the Butterfly Beauty thinlits in a stunning way. The butterfly thinlits layer with each other so can be used separately or together. In this card, I've used both layers and I've snipped out some of them from the bunch to make them the focus of a smaller space. The tiny butterflies and the spray of foliage are extras in the die set.

The set also co-ordinates with one of the Saleabration offerings: Botanical Butterly DSP, which I've used a small sliver of as one of the two rectangular elements. The other one I have self-stamped using a lovely floral spray stamp from Beauty Abounds, which I've also used behind the big butterflies.

I went a bit old-school and broke out my distressing sponges and sponged the edges of all the panels. My favourite Annual Catalogue embossing folder, the Subtle folder, was used as well to give some interest to the background.
