Around the World on Wednesday January 2024

Welcome to a new hop with the crew at Around the World on Wednesday. On the second Wednesday of each month, the team put together a thematic hop to give you some inspiration for your own crafting. We love it when you try out something new or CAS(E) one of our projects. The team is truly international, with members from each time zone of the world that Stampin' Up! operates. You're with me, in New Zealand - the first place in the Stampin' Up! world to change the date. 😀

This month, we have a Sketch Challenge for you. I love a sketch challenge - they're my favourite kind.

The sketch was a great way to try out one of my new pre-order purchases from the January-April 2024 Mini Catalogue. This gorgeous Perennial Lavender suite has it all: two stamp bundles, DSP and fabulous embellishments. I didn't mean to buy it all - it just sort of ended up in my cart bit by bit. 😀

Of course, you don't HAVE to have it all. You can choose select items.
Anyway, here's my first play around with it, in response to the challenge sketch.

The embossing folder that I used was the Exposed Brick 3D Folder, one of my favourites.

To create the flowers, I die cut the stems from Basic White card then coloured them with Stampin' Blends, in a mix of Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather and the tiniest touches of Blackberry Bliss (light).

Aren't the embellishments wonderful? They're the Purple Fine Shimmer Gems from the suite.

You can see how it all came together in this tutorial.

I think this is a suite you'll be seeing a lot of in the coming months! It's a delight.

Next up on the hop is the wonderful Leonie Stuart from Australia who will show you another way to use the sketch.

Dainty Delight for Colour INKspiration 151

Welcome to the latest challenge at Colour INKspiration. This bright and pretty palette was chosen for us by Crew Member, Cathy Pinchbeck. Thank you to everyone who pulled out the stops and joined in with our 150th challenge - we hope you find this pretty combination as inspirational. 😀

If you haven't played with us before, we are a group of Stampin' Up Demonstrators from the South Pacific. Challenges are shown and entered via our Facebook Group page. If you don't belong, and would like to, click here. Don't forget to answer the three easy questions you'll be asked when you ask to join the group.

Each challenge, Top Picks and a winner are chosen by the crew and the winner offered a chance to Guest Design with us for a future challenge. We welcome Heather Noble as Guest Designer for this challenge.

If you don't have an exact challenge colour, feel free to replace it with whatever you have that's closest, for example Misty Moonlight for Boho Blue. Black, White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand and metallics are free colours, as are flesh toned Stampin' Blends.

These colours were slow to speak to me, despite the pretty graphic, but in the end they seemed to whisper 'floral' to me. So I got out the Dainty Delight bundle to play around with.

I added a sentiment from Timeless Arrangements and also had a play with the new Deckled Circle dies too.

I used a spot of water colouring to help create my mini-garden scene. You can see how I did it in the tutorial below.

We'd love to have you join in the challenge with us. Visit the Colour INKspiration page to check out the album of Crew Cards for inspiration. You can also add your entry there. We all enjoy seeing what you do with our colour palettes, so join in!

Cottage Rose for The Paper Players 629

This month's classes are over so, after cleaning up, I decided to treat myself to a play time. For inspiration, I used the sketch at The Paper Players and got out another older favourite, Cottage Rose.

I liked the idea of a square card and started out with one idea that evolved into something else as I went along. Here's where it ended up.

I quite surprised myself, given that I seldom use patterned paper and then usually only in small quantities, that I settled on this paper from Abigail Rose as the background for the floral cluster. I'd been going to use it as a wide border for a white, textured square ... you just never know how things will turn out sometimes!

I did some therapeutic colouring of various images, chopped them up and then played with arranging them. The final touch was the addition of some Iridescent Rhinestone Jewels.

Butterfly Brilliance for FMS 477

I used the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches for inspiration for the second outing of the Butterfly Brilliance bundle.

This set is a pre-release from the 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue, coming out in May. While the stamps and dies will be available for the life of the catalogue, the Butterfly Bijou DSP is only available during this pre-release period, so if you love it - order it today.

Butterfly Bijou DSP  $24.25 156824

I liked the idea of a square card, so went with that and used the Stitched Triangle dies to cut the DSP into two right-angled triangles, with the lines of stitching making the diagonal. The Just Jade card base is stamped with the Butterfly Brilliance stamp in the same colour.

I used the Brilliant Wings dies to cut a lacy butterfly from Basic White, then used Blending Brushes to  add colour. I considered layering up the butterfly but the background is busy enough without the focal panel over-doing it.

The sentiment is from the ever-faithful Itty Bitty Greetings and punched with the Classic Label punch. A few Opal Rounds embellishments finished off the card.
