Fun on Wheels for AYSI 303

As night follows day, at As You See It Challenge a colour challenge always follows a sketch. It was fantastic to see so many great takes on my sketch in the gallery. Let's see what you all make of this colour challenge, given to us by team member Heather Heroldt.

I found this combination a little bit - well - challenging! No idea seemed to jump out at me as demanding the use of these colours. While looking through my 'not yet tried out' shelf, I came upon the Fun on Wheels bundle and the idea of a pair of brightly coloured cycles came to mind. So this is another 'First Date' card!

As you see in the product picture, the dies let you build up a bicycle in different stages and colours. I think there's some future fun to have there! Keeping in mind the challenge colours, I made the base from Gray Granite, the wheels from Crumb Cake and the frames in Poppy Parade and Tahitian Tide.

I took the map stamp and covered over the Poppy Parade card front with it, using Poppy Parade ink for a subtle do-it-yourself DSP background.

For the white embossed panel, I wanted to create the idea of a roadway. So after measuring out how much room I needed to fit the bikes, I scored a line top and bottom with my Paper Trimmer. Then I used the Cross Hatch folder from the Basics 3D Embossing Folder pack (from the On Line Exclusives) and embossed each side of the line in two passes of the Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine. Quite effective, don't you think?

Be sure to pop over the the As You See It Challenge page so you can see what the rest of the team have done with these colours and to link up your own entry.

Cheerful Daisies for AWOW July

It's already time for another Inspiration Hop with Around the World on Wednesday. On the second Wednesday of each month, the team put together a thematic hop to give you some inspiration for your own crafting. We love it when you try out something new or CAS(E) one of our projects. The team is truly international, with members from each time zone of the world that Stampin' Up! operates. You're with me, in New Zealand - the first place in the Stampin' Up! world to change the date. 😀

This month, our inspiration was to CASE another member of the team. But it wasn't as simple as just looking through the team and finding someone whose work I loved. Our team leader, Angie, likes to organise things to that the team get to know each other a little better along the way. She held a live draw where we were paired up with someone else on the team. Even then, that was not the end. The pairs were not to CASE each other but to talk together and find a third member of the team that neither of us had CASEd before, agree on one of their cards ... and then, agree on a colour we would both use. PHEW! A mission all on it's own - and I hadn't even crafted anything yet!

I was lucky enough to be drawn with the delightful Angie herself. Our first mission was to find a time we could zoom, given that the time difference between us meant there were only a few hours each day when we'd both be awake! But find one we did and we spent a pleasant hour chatting and working out who we might CASE. Several message threads later, we decided on the wonderful Cheryll Miller from Australia and a few more threads later, which of her many marvellous creations we would each CASE. 😀

Here's Cheryll's card that Angie and I have CASEd. Isn't it a beauty?

In my case, I preserved many of the elements of Cheryll's card: a square format, an embossed background with a matted horizontal panel, a mat around the main panel, a floral bouquet to the left side that breaks the strip, a sentiment stamped on the panel to the right and a mix of stamped images and raised elements.

I think the parentage is clear! The colour that Angie and I agree we would both use was Soft Sea Foam.

So while you're hopping, watch our for Angie's case of the Cheryll's original and of course, more magic from Cheryll herself.

Cheerful Daisies is a great bundle to have in your stash. If you live in New Zealand it's a great time to remind you that if you purchase this bundle from me as you'll receive the tutorial package put together by me and my friend, Joanne James (aka The Crafty Owl). If you haven't played with us before, we are a group of Stampin' Up Demonstrators from the South Pacific. Challenges are shown and entered via our Facebook Group page. If you don't belong, and would like to, click here. Don't forget to answer the three easy questions you'll be asked when you ask to join the group.

Each challenge, Top Picks and a winner are chosen by the crew and the winner offered a chance to Guest Design with us for a future challenge.

If you don't have an exact challenge colour, feel free to replace it with whatever you have that's closest, for example Pecan Pie for Copper Clay. Black, White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand and metallics are free colours, as are flesh toned Stampin' Blends.

I have been desperate to crack open the Beauty of the Deep bundle. It's been calling to me ever since it fell on my desk but time has been in short supply of late.

So I decided to combine making a Crew card with opening the bundle. Here's the result...

Because Beauty of the Deep is an image only set, I used Something Fancy for the sentiment.

I call a card like this, made on the first opening of the packet, a FIRST DATE. It's a pretty straight forward card while we were getting to know each other! If you'd like to see how I made it, here's a video tutorial for you.

We'd love to have you join in the challenge with us. Visit the Colour INKspiration page to check out the album of Crew Cards for inspiration. You can also add your entry there. We all enjoy seeing what you do with our colour palettes, so join in!
