Posted For You for JAI 529

Sometimes, a colour combination just takes your fancy. That's what happened when I saw this week's interesting challenge at Just Add Ink.

I broke open the Posted For You bundle for this challenge. The pretty images lend themselves to colouring, so I silver embossed one of them and coloured it using a Water Painter and ink. The coordinating punch instantly turns it into a faux postage stamp. I cut a second in Silver Foil as a shadow backing.

I added some background stamping with the 'Special Delivery' stamp from the set and splatter stamp from Forever Fern before embossing with the Subtle embossing folder. The sentiment, which is also from Posted For You, is on a strip and I fishtailed the ends using the Banners Pick a Punch. Using a punch, rather than eyeballing a cut makes it much easier to achieve matching ends.

The white ribbon and the Misty Moonlight/silver twine are both part of the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon combo.

Update: Delighted to get an Honourable Mention at JAI.

Forever Fern for JAI 508

This week's challenge at Just Add Ink is to 'just add F'. Since my current fixation is the glorious Forever Fern bundle, part of the Forever Greenery suite, this seemed a great excuse for another play around with it!

I set myself the extra challenge of not using the dies that are part of the bundle. As an experiment in simple stamping it is, of course, a fail since I couldn't help myself and used dies for the edging and sentiment. I excuse myself though, since this card could easily be made by someone who did not own a die-cutting machine as the decorative edging and die-cut label for the sentiment could be missed out and replaced with straight cuts without destroying the overall effect.

The very pretty gold elements come from the Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty paper, so no die-cut machine required there either. Another way that I stepped away from simple stamping was to use Stampin' Blends to colour the Pretty Peacock and Shaded Spruce leaves: Soft Sea Foam and touches of Shaded Spruce to add more depth. Again, this could be omitted if you don't own any.

Well Dressed for JAI 495

I've been playing around with Well Dressed, one of the second-release Sale-abration sets, lately.

When I saw this week's challenge at Just Add Ink, this idea for a quick, fun card was born.

I liked the idea of a rainbow of ties, minus their grey suits, partying up. So I stamped ties in Real Red, Mango Melody, Pacific Point, Granny Apple Green and Gorgeous Grape and fussy cut them. Since only straight lines are involved, that was quick work.

I used the Absolutely Argyll 3D embossing folder for the background to add to the masculine vibe and pick up the pattern from the ties. Then I added some splatters in Night of Navy using one of the stamps from Artisan Textures - quick confetti! The 'Congratulations' is from Well Said and happens to fit perfectly inside the smallest Stitched Rectangle die without the need to alter the sizing.
