Darling Dinos for AYSI 347

I'm excited for the  new challenge at As You See It - it's a recipe challenge. All you need to do is to take the five ingredients and see what you can cook up with them.

Dinosaurs are favourites of mine, as in the Darling Dino bundle. I chose two of the dinosaurs from the stamp set, inked them up with Tuxedo Black and coloured them using Stampin' Blends in Gray Granite, Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Pecan Pie.

So that's two of the recipe ingredients ticked off: animals and colouring.

I die cut out my dinosaurs and also a rectangular panel using one of the Textured Notes dies.

So that ticked off a third ingredient of the recipe: punch or die cut.

A fourth ingredient was texture or embossing. Now normally, I'm all over embossing. I use embossing far more than I use patterned paper but.... in this instance, I really wanted to use the Woven Textures DSP. So, no embossing but definitely texture. I think that the decorative edge of the rectangle counts as texture too.

So that ticked off ingredient four: texture or embossing

Twine was the final ingredient. That was easily ticked off by adding some lines of Crumb Cake twine from the Basic Essentials Baker's Twine pack along with a bow.

Then to finish off, I added a trio of Pecan Pie dots from the Neutral Matte Dots pack.

The whole team would love to see what you can cook up with these five ingredients plus your own extras. You can see what the rest of the team have done, and link up your entry, at the As You See It Challenge page.

If you live in New Zealand and don't have a Stampin' Up Demonstrator, I'd love to be yours. I can help you with ideas, get you catalogues and provide you with Stampin' Up products. You can leave a message in the comments or contact me using any of the methods listed in the Contact Me tab at the top of the page.

Darling Dinos for Paper Players 726

Many thanks to everyone who played along with my CAS Masculine challenge last week. That's two toughies in the one challenge so well done for being brave enough to take on both things in the one project!

This week, Stef has given us a great sketch to work with.

My card this week was inspired by this photo of my granddaughter visiting a local sunflower field a few weeks ago. She just loved those sunflowers and talked about them a lot!

She also loves dinosaurs, her favourite being triceratops. So I used Stef's sketch to make her a Valentine's card.

Darling Dinos had everything I needed! I started by stamping a row of sunflowers top and bottom of the Basic White card front. I coloured them in Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends. Hard to see in the photo, but the centres have a nice glimmer from Wink of Stella.

I embossed a smaller piece of Basic White with the Sale-a-Bration Starburst folder, since the design reminded me of flowers, and attached it to the centre of the card front

I stamped, coloured and cut Miss Triceratops. She's a mix of Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight and Pretty in Pink. I used  one of the Spotlight on Nature dies to cut a circle on which I sponged some Granny Apple Green with a Blending Brush, then stamped on some grass.

After popping on Miss Triceratops up on dimensionals, I added in some Pretty in Pink love hearts.

Finally, I stamped the 'Love You' in Crumb Cake and flagged the ends before adding it.

All done (and hopefully perfect) for little Miss Three. 💕

We'd all love to see what you do with Stef's sketch. You can see what the rest of the design team have done, and link up your entry, at The Paper Players page.

Creativity Abounds February 2025

This month the international team at Creativity Abounds has a great theme for our bundle and hop: Fun Folds. This hop - and the associated tutorial bundle - is always popular and will give you a lot of examples for fancy folds

Even if you don't have the exact sets, you'll find inspiration in the different folds each of us have used.  If you get the tutorial bundle, you'll have step-by-step instructions for thirteen projects, all of which you'll see as you go around the hop.

You can earn the Tutorial Bundle as a free gift from me with a purchase of $100 or more (excluding P&P) or by being a member of my team. You can shop with me, and join my team, from anywhere in New Zealand.

There are two parts to this post: a bonus project and a sneak peek at my tutorial project.

1. Bonus Project Teepee Fold

The fold I'm showcasing is one I haven't used for some years, the TeePee Fold. Once I got it out and started playing with it, I don't know why I haven't been using it more! It was an excellent chance to explore the Darling Dinos bundle, a current favourite of mine.

The triangular shaped card stands by itself and can be made so that it folds neatly into a standard envelope. It has three faces that can be decorated, or you can - as I have - leave one relatively blank to write a message on.

Here's a look at each of the three faces.

2. Tutorial Project Teepee Fold

Here's a glimpse at the card I've created for the tutorial bundle. Same fold, different bundle. I've used the Beautiful Butterflies bundle for this one. Step-by-step instructions are in the tutorial package, along with 12 other projects from the rest of the Creativity Abounds team.

Here's a glimpse at the other twelve projects in the tutorial package. Take the hop around the rest of the team and you'll see exactly which Fancy Folds are being showcased.

If you live in New Zealand, you can get this tutorial bundle free with a qualifying purchase from me. If you live somewhere else, you can get the bundle from a team member in your country.
Here's who we all are and where we're from.

Darling Dinos for Paper Players 725

Welcome to a new week at The Paper Players. We had such a great week last week with LeAnne's bright colour challenge. I really hope you enjoy this week's challenge because I'm the hostess this week.

There are two things to think about for this challenge: firstly, it's a masculine card and secondly it's a CLEAN AND SIMPLE challenge.

By clean and simple, we mean there are minimal layers, lots of clean white space and few embellishments.

When I started out to create for this challenge, I was going to use Trusty Tools stamps and dies (which are a Sale-a-Bration reward this month). Before I could get to them though, my eyes fell upon the Darling Dinos bundle. Cute as that bundle is, I thought it could go masculine. So here it is....

Although it's a bit of a cliche, I went for blues as a base for my masculine colour scheme. I used Azure Afternoon for the card base and some of the sentiment and colouring. My sort-of-T-Rex is coloured with Stampin' Blends in Azure Afternoon, Balmy Blue, Smoky Slate and Lemon-Lime Twist. I also gave him some glasses and a top hat.

After stamping and colouring him, I masked him to add in some sponged Granny Apple Green and some stamped grass.

It took considerable strength of will to stamp the sentiment directly on the card base and not a shaped label, in order to reduce the layers and keep things more CAS! Not to mention brave because there's no second chances when you stamp directly onto the card front!

We'd all love to see what you do with this CLEAN AND SIMPLE MASCULINE challenge. You can see what the rest of the design team have done, and link up your entry, at The Paper Players page.

Here's a quick recap of our challenge rules:

Darling Dinos for AYSI 339

Welcome to the first challenge of the year at As You See It! I hope you've all had a lovely Christmas and a restful New Year so are ready to head to the craft room refreshed and excited!

We're kicking off with a colour challenge from Heather C.

It's an interesting combination of colours but as soon as I saw it, I started thinking 'dinosaurs'. Odd, I know! Perhaps it's my little love affair with the new Darling Dinos bundle....

I started off by choosing one of the three cute dinosaurs, and some rocks, stamping them in Basic Gray and colouring them with Stampin' Blends. I used Smoky Slate, Peach Pie and Berry Burst. They were easily cut out with the bundle's dies.

I really like the way that you can easily insert different words to complete the sentiment and it's also easy to make the sentiment multi-coloured. So the start and end of the sentence were stamped in Basic Gray (one stamp) then I picked the punny 'T-rrific' and stamped it in Berry Burst.

The label is from Nested Essentials. The embossed background is Starstruck, one of the Sale-a-bration rewards you can earn with a qualifying purchase during January and February. Lovely, isn't it?

The finishing embellishment was a trio of 2024 In Color Resin dots in Peach Pie.

I so enjoyed colouring the dinosaur that I repeated him on the inside, added in a Berry Burst mat and a birthday greeting.

I used a Basic Gray card base because I was thinking that this would make a perfectly good masculine birthday.

The team and I would love to see what you do with Heather's colour mix. Visit the As You See It page to see what the rest of the team have done and to link up your entry. You can join in the challenge until Wednesday January 22, 11.59pm PST.

Creativity Abounds December

This month the international team at Creativity Abounds has a great theme for our bundle and hop: Birthday Celebrations. This hop - and the associated tutorial bundle - will give you a lot of examples for birthdays.

Even if you don't have the exact sets, you'll find inspiration in layouts, folds, colours or techniques.

Bonus Project

For my bonus birthday project, I'm sharing a play around with one of the new bundles from the January 2025 Mini Catalogue called Darling Dinos. The three dinosaurs in the set are so cute and come with all sorts of accessories such as balloons, party hats and glasses through to scene building items like rocks and footprints. A real delight to play around with! And of course, among the many sentiments there are some dinosaur puns as well. Darling Dinos will be available in the New Year.

I coloured the images with Stampin' Blends in Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Peach Pie and Pool Party. I used the Perennial Postage dies to cut a panel. The top is sponged in Pool Party to create a sense of sky and then Old Olive at the bottom, over-stamped with the grass stamp.

The background is embossed with the cross-hatch folder from the Basics Embossing Folder set - an online exclusive. A nice easy card that's fun to do!

Tutorial Bundle Project

For my contribution to the tutorial bundle, I used the Online Exclusive bundle, Cake Celebrations.
Here's a peek at the card.

Here's a sneak peek of the whole bundle.

Darling Dinos for AYSI 338

Welcome to the last challenge of the year at As You See It. Thank you to everyone who has played along with us this year. It's always a pleasure to see how you all see the challenges. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with friends and family.

Now, on with the challenge. It's a sketch: my favourite!

My demonstrator pre-order for the January Mini Catalogue arrived recently, so I've had a play with one of the new bundles: Darling Dinos. As a long time lover of dinosaurs, and having a grandchild who is just beginning her obsession, this set was a must have!

I started by stamping one of the three dinosaurs and then colouring her in. I restrained myself as I could have added in glasses, a hair bow and various hats but instead opted to give her a trio of balloons. And some outrageous horns. She's coloured with Stampin' Blends in Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo and Crumb Cake. The balloons are in Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight.

I sponged the square, cut with Stylish Shapes, with some Granny Apple Green ink then stamped over some grass. Again, I showed restraint as I could have added trees, rocks and dinosaur footprints as well!

The banners are cut with Stylish Shapes. The sentiment is stamped in Shaded Spruce. The rainbow is cut from a scrap of paper from the Full of Life DSP stack.

The card base is Granny Apple Green and the card front embossed with the cross-hatch folder from the  Basics embossing folder set.

Darling Dinos - and many more goodies - will be available in the New Year. Sale-abration begins at the same time.

The team and I would love to see what you can do in ten minutes or less. Visit the As You See It page to see what the rest of the team have done and to link up your entry. You can join in the challenge until Wednesday December 19, 11.59pm PST.
