Christmas Gleaming for Retro Rubber 142

This week, at Retro Rubber Challenge, we have an interesting sketch for you to get creative with. As always, since this is Retro Rubber, we ask you to use at least one stamp that is a year or more old AND to tell us the approximate age of that stamp.

It's never too early to start a stash of Christmas cards, is it?!  The sketch certainly got me thinking of Christmas because I thought a lacy rectangle might be a nice element and that lead me to the Christmas Layers dies.  I backed some of the gorgeous Brushed Copper foil with Adhesive Sheet to make application easy. Then, I cut two of the Christmas foliage dies and arranged them into a rectangle and applied them to a Very Vanilla base that I'd embossed with the Subtle embossing folder. This die set is also a carry over from last year's Holiday catalogue and I'm very pleased to see them return - you should see the snowflake die in the set!

My favourite bundle from last year's Holiday Catalogue was Christmas Gleaming. The stamp set, which contained both sentiments and Christmas images - including these wonderful baubles - came with a pair of punches to cut the baubles out with. Because the background is so rich, I kept the treatment of the baubles very simple, opting to stamp them in Pretty Peacock on Very Vanilla and add a touch of Wink of Stella  on the hangers.

The foil accented DSP was also my favourite DSP from last year's catalogue too and you can see some snippets of it here, behind the sentiment.

If you missed out on getting these beauties last year, they are back in this year's August-December Mini Catalogue both individually and as an extra special bundle. The Christmas Gleaming Variety Bundle gives you 10% off for getting the stamps set, pair of punches AND the DSP for only $133.

You have until September 4 to play along with us. You see what the rest of the team have done with this sketch, and link up your entry, by visiting the Retro Rubber Challenge site.

TGIF 243

The challenge at TGIF this week is to use your favourites from the Holiday Catalogue.

I loved many things in the nearly-concluded Holiday Catalogue but my two favourites were the Christmas Gleaming bundle and Itty Bitty Christmas.

Family Christmas dinner this year is at my sister-in-law's place and she asked me to make some table favours. I turned to Christmas Gleaming and the gorgeous Stampin' Up! pillow boxes.

The copper-accented Brightly Gleaming specialty DSP is so pretty, it needs little else. Just an embossed bauble, a stamped bauble and a greeting and - voila - done! The pillow box, available in packs of ten, make life easy!

The pillow boxes are available still from the Annual Catalogue. Happily, the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set will carry over and the Christmas Gleaming stamps and Brightly Gleaming DSP will be seen again next Christmas.

Christmas Gleaming for CI68 - Crew Card

It's hard to believe that it's almost December and that Christmas is just around the corner. To help get you in the mood, we have a Christmas-inspired palette for you to play with this fortnight.

Isn't it lovely? If you haven't played with us before, we we're a group of Australian and New Zealand Stampin' Up Demonstrators. You can play with us by joining in our Facebook group here which will let you play along, comment and vote for your favourite from the top 5 selected by the crew.

In addition to the challenge colours, you can freely use Whisper White, Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Crumb Cake, metallics and skin-tone blends. If you don't have the exact challenge colours, you can substitute with your nearest-to colours.

I'm very much into Christmas card mode at present. My favourite set at the moment is the Christmas Gleaming bundle, mainly because the two punches that co-ordinate with the stamped baubles are so easy to use.

I loved these rich and inviting colours but decided to tone them down a little by sponging the colour onto the baubles, which had been embossed in silver first. I used a blender pen and Silvery Shimmer ink pad to paint the bauble hangers.

The holly leaves are coloured using Shaded Spruce and Pretty Peacock Stampin' Blends. I used a clear Wink of Stella pen to draw some of the Shaded Spruce from the stamped holly images to colour the berries a little.

I added texture to the Silver Foil mat by running it through the Subtle embossing folder first. Doesn't it give the foil a super new look?

Next up on the hop is Rebecca Scurr who will have some more inspiration for these luscious colours.
We'd love to see what you make with them. You have two weeks to play along with us and show us.
