Old and New for Around the World on Wednesday

Thank you for joining in with the latest hop from the crew at Around the World on Wednesday. If you haven't hopped with us before, we're a group of Stampin' Up! Demonstrators from every time zone in the world where Stampin' Up! operates. You're here with me, in New Zealand.

Each month we present a different theme to inspire you to create.
This month, our theme is 'Something New, Something Used.'

Now is a perfect time for a challenge like this because, for demonstrators, we have just had a chance to access preorder items from the January 2023 Mini Catalogue... the very best kind of 'new.' 😀

I've combined an exciting new die set, Alphabet a la Mode, with several older items. This die set is exciting because it contains both letters and numbers in a large, slimline format making it ideal for both card making and scrapbooking. I thought it would be perfect for an Advent Calendar.

The older items I started with were the Mini Envelope Pocket dies, which appeared in the 2022-23 Annual Catalogue. They're just the perfect size for credit card style gift vouchers, among other small items. So I thought they were a great size for an Advent Calendar, holding as they do a Favourites Chocolate or a set of stickers or whatever you want to put in the calendar.

I also used the Lights Aglow suite which has been the basis of almost all my Christmas projects this year. The opulent Lights Aglow DSP was great for the pockets while the stamps from Christmas Lights and the circular label die from Labels Aglow were great as bases for the numbers.

The gold glimmer foliage is from the Mini Envelope Pocket die set, while the gold stars on some of the pockets are cut with dies from the Cracker & Treat Box dies.

When I thought about how I might display these pockets as a calendar, I'd thought about creating a garland on twine - which I could still do. Then I remembered the Christmas Card display rack that was available from Stampin' Up! a few years ago. I also loved the Gold Library clips which have also retired but thought they might work too. It's always nice to use up stash items. As you saw above, this does work too as a way of displaying the calendar. Next year, I might set then up as a garland.

Next up on the hop is the ever wonderful Leonie Stuart in Australia.

Brightest Glow for AYSI 289

Well, it's almost the end of the Challenge year and we're going out with one of our famous - and feared - Speed Challenges.

The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create something new using Christmas Baubles in TEN MINUTES OR LESS.

Now, if you've never done one of these before, it's not quite as scary as it seems. The ten minutes does not include getting out your equipment: things like blocking up the stamps, getting out the dies, putting the embellishments to hand - that kind of thing. Nor does it include thinking time, so you can know what you're doing to do before you start the clock. However, once you take a cut or ink a stamp, then the timer must begin. Mercifully, the ten minutes definitely does NOT include clean up either! 😀

For this challenge, I had to dig around my box of retired Christmas stamps for something that was bauble enough for my idea. Ornamental Envelopes fitted the bill as all the baubles are on one stamp.  I stamped it in Tuxedo Black, then added my favourite sentiment from this year's Brightest Glow, also in Tuxedo Black. (If it wasn't a speed challenge, I'd have gold embossed but ink stamping is quicker.)

For me, the fastest way to colour is with Stampin' Blends, so I used Cherry Cobbler and Mango Melody. Again, without the speed challenge I might have used more colours and more intricate colour patterns but it's effective as it is.

I mounted the stamped panel onto Cherry Cobbler then attached it to a Thick Basic White base. I stamped the baubles on the inside but did not colour them.

With a speed challenge, I always have something that I'll add if there's time. I was pleasantly surprised that I had time up my sleeve so got to add my 'extra', which was to cover the baubles with Wink of Stella to give them a shine. You can see it clearly in the above picture.  Then I quickly added a few Basic Rhinestones as centres and to lead the eye down to the sentiment.

And then.... it was time to stop the clock.

Lights Aglow Tags for Stampin' Fancy Friday

 Hello everyone!

Christmas is fast approaching and the team at Stampin' Fancy Friday are sharing projects on the theme of 'Tags' this month.

The team at Stampin' Fancy Friday are all current or past members of Stampin' Up!'s Artisan Design Team and each month we have a theme. The projects are shared throughout the month on Instagram. If you haven't already followed us, you'll find us @stampinfancyfriday.

This is just a quick post to share my tag project made using the Christmas Lights bundle, Brightest Glow set, Tailor Made Tags dies and some resist embossing.

If you'd like to see how I made them, then here's a short tutorial.
