The Paper Players 451

This week at The Paper Players, the challenge is twofold. There's both a theme and a style: masculine and CAS.

Clean and simple is a style I enjoy, despite having been more clean and layered of late, so it was good to get back to a CAS themed challenge.

If you put me in a craft room or a kitchen, I know what I'm doing. If you put me in front of a DIY task or some car maintenance, then I'm about as much use as a wet paper bag. Consequently, I'm often helped out of such situation by others - usually men - so it's good to have some masculine 'thank you' cards on hand.

There's lots of clean, white space here and minimal layers or embellishments. I've kept the colours  masculine: Night of Navy, Smoky Slate, silver and black.

The cluster is stamped, using the oil stain stamp from Geared Up Garage. The cogs are die cut in silver from the co-ordinating set then given a tarnished look by being swiped over with Stazon. The tool box is popped up on dimensionals after the ink has been spread a little with a blender pen.

 

And done! The perfect thank you for all those little DIY and mechanical jobs.

As You See It 205 - Design Team Card

It's theme week at As You See It this week and it's one I'm sure you'll enjoy. Beaches. Who doesn't love the beach?

I've been spoiled in the beach department by our recent holiday to Samoa: beach perfection! The water is so crystal clear you can see everything on the ocean floor and you can snorkel straight off the beach. 

The challenge was a great opportunity to get out a recent acquisition from the 2019 Annual Catalogue, Seaside Notions. It was also a chance to try out a new technique that I'd seen used by my Colour Inkspiration team mate, Leonie Stuart, who had seen the idea by Elodie Tanchaud (sorry, couldn't find a blog to link to for her).

This involved creating an inky background, stamping then using bleach to lift colour from the images.

The inky background was created by smooshing Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay and Pretty Peacock onto watercolour paper. The images of the seahorse, coral and shell were inked on using Stazon. I used an aqua painter dipped in household bleach to lift the colour from them. I left a little more colour in parts of the seahorse to give him some depth. 

The final step was to mask the shell and coral then use the 'sand' stamp in Pretty Peacock to help ground the images. Once the sentiment was in place I used some of the new faceted dots in Pretty Peacock to draw the eye towards it.

The Paper Players 450

Just a quick post today. I couldn't resist LeAnne's bright colour challenge at The Paper Players.

It's a mixture of old and new. Beautiful Bouquet is a set that's been around for a couple of years while the Stitched Lace die is from this year's annual catalogue.

I've often said that Beautiful Bouquet is an amazing set with endless variations possible with the many different bloom and foliage stamps and dies. This is no exception and I had a great time doing the final flower arrangement with my various bits and bobs. I think my favourites are the two-tone buds.

I like the way the die-cut ribbon is off centre as it gives the ribbon even more sense of depth. The white-embossed sentiment is a perfect finish for this spring-bright card.

Retro Rubber 114 - Design Team Card

This week at Retro Rubber Challenge we have a colour combination for you. Isn't this such a pretty set of colours?

As always, to play along with us, you need to not only follow the challenge brief but also use a stamp that's at least a year old and give us an approximate age for it. That's because we're the challenge that wants to get you showing the older parts of your collection some ink time. 😀

I've said before that Beautiful Bouquet is a great set to have because, with so many different leaves and flower stamps, you can create so many variations. This card shows off the leaf, stem and tulip stamps. This set first appeared in the 2017-18 Annual Catalogue and is still current.

To create the background for my bed of tulips, I sponged Garden Green, Daffodil Delight and Gorgeous Grape onto some shimmery cardstock. After spritzing it lightly with water to get some mottling happening, I stamped one of the stamps from Artisan Textures in Gorgeous Grape. This useful set of background bits first appeared in 2018-19 Annual Catalogue and is also still current.

The sentiment is from yet another set from the 2018-19 Catalogue, Varied Vases, and it too is still current.

The beautifully textured white card makes use of a new embossing folder Bricks & Mortar from the current catalogue. I love the uneven texture of the bricks - just like an old wall.
