Fab Friday 103

As soon as I saw the sketch at Fab Friday, I knew I had to play it. So many ideas came to mind but I went with the one that let me play with a recently neglected set, Seaside Shore.

I seldom make shaker cards. In fact, this is only the second one I've ever made. It seemed the right approach with this set and this sketch. So, here it is...

I took a tip from Jennifer McGuire and glued a few sequins in place inside the shaker, just in case everything fell to the bottom. The Calypso Coral button was leftover from a previous year's Sale-a-bration deal.

On the inside...

In the end, a card that would suit male or female. I like that it retains a clean look, despite the use of patterned paper and a lot of layers.

Ingredients
Card: Dapper Denim, Very Vanilla, DSP from By the Shore, Window sheet
Stamps: Seaside Shore, Big on Birthdays
Inks: Dapper Denim, Soft Sky, Mint Macaron, Calypso Coral
Other: Seaside Textured embossing folder, foam strips, Square framelits, Calypso Coral button, Linen twine, sequins from the sewing cupboard.

The Paper Players 303

This week's challenge colours at The Paper Players are just so very pretty that I wanted to used them.

I'm not quite sure how I got lead to an underwater scene. I suppose it was that Island Indigo put me in mind of the ocean. Anyway, here's how it ended up.

I particularly enjoyed experimenting with building up the water-coloured background by adding in extra layers of colour and stamping in the bubbles. I also liked the idea that the school of fish linked into the 'from all of us.'

Update: Delighted to have this card selected as A Cut Above at The Paper Players.

Ingredients
Card: Island Indigo, Mint Macaron, Whisper White, watercolour paper
Stamps: Seaside Shore, One Big Meaning
Inks: Island Indigo, Mint Macron, Sweet Sugarplum, versamark
Other: Oval framelits, White embossing powder, markers in Island Indigo, Mint Macaron and Sweet Sugarplum, Seaside embossing folder.

ColourQ 349 Sunday Stamps 130

Winter is here with a vengeance. Today was the last day of the school term and it was raining and cold all day. What better way to celebrate than to get acquainted with the Swirly Bird bundle that I bought at the start of June and have done little more than look at since? Ok - I've used it on one previous card, but still plenty to explore! So after cooking dinner and indulging a glass of wine, I took myself off to my craft room.

For inspiration, I used the colour challenge at ColourQ

and the sketch challenge at Sunday Stamps.

And here's what I came up with...

In order to get 'hope it's' in the sentiment, I had to mask off part of the original stamp.

After making the basic white tag, I softly sponged the bottom in Marina Mist as a background for the ocean waves. I've used a scallop mask to create the impression of clouds in the upper part.

One of my card-class ladies commented last night that we didn't often make masculine cards. I hope this one ticks her box!

Ingredients
Card: Island Indigo, Marina Mist, Whisper White, small scrap of Basic Grey
Stamps: Swirly Bird, Endless Birthday Wishes
Ink: Basic Grey, Island Indigo, Marina Mist, Real Red
Other: Seaside embossing folder, Swirly Scribbles thinlits, Real Red cotton ribbon, dimensionals

CAS 177 PCCC 198

My box of catalogue goodies arrived during the week but I've had to wait until Saturday night to really get into it. The set I wanted most was Seaside Shore and I've used it with the inspiration sketch at CAS Colours and Sketches.

As it happens, the colours at The Paper Craft Crew work well with this set too.

The three colours from the four choices that I'm using are: Mint Macaron, Calypso Coral and the new colour, Dapper Denim.

I like the linen twine added into this mix. I think it's suitably nautical and was a little more restrained than the Calypso Coral twine I thought about using. The new Seaside embossing folder is a real beauty and I feel I'll be using it a lot.

Update: Delighted to be a Top Pick at CAS Colours and Sketches this week!

Card: Mint Macaron, Very Vanilla
Stamps: Seaside Shore, One Big Meaning
Inks: Dapper Denim, Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron
