Retro Rubber 119 - Design Team Card

Welcome to the latest challenge at Retro Rubber, the site that gives you a reason to get out your old favourites. This week, we have a colour challenge for you. In New Zealand, we're heading into Spring but these autumnal colours are lovely any time of the year to me.

As always with Retro Rubber, the rules are simple. Use at least one stamp that's a year or more old, give us the approximate age of it, and don't link up to more than ten challenges.

The graphic put me in mind of one of my favourite sets from the 2017-18 Annual Catalogue, Colourful Seasons. I took the solid leaf stamp from it and stamped it onto watercolour paper. Then I wet the paper to get the ink moving a little bit which has given the images a soft, watercoloured look.

The sentiment is from A Big Thank You, which is still current, but premiered in the 2018-19 Annual Catalogue.

Why not pop over to the Retro Rubber Challenge blog, have a look at what the rest of the team have done with these colours and then join in with us?

If you live in New Zealand and don't have a Stampin' Up Demonstrator, I'd love to be yours. I can help you with ideas, get you catalogues and provide you with Stampin' Up products. You can leave a message in the comments or contact me using any of the methods listed in the Contact Me tab at the top of the page. You can shop with me from anywhere in New Zealand by clicking on the SHOP NOW button in the sidebar or clicking on any of products below.

Paper Players 370 - Design Team Card

LeAnne's Holiday Pines challenge last week gave us so many beautiful cards - I was gobsmacked and choosing just one to be Cut Above kept me deliberating for quite a bit of Saturday morning. So, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with Nance's interesting colour challenge: white on white.

An interesting challenge, where I think texture will play a greater role than usual. Here's what I came up with.

The Petal Burst embossing folder makes up the background, while on a plain white banner some die cuts from Colourful Seasons take centre stage.

The sentiment caused a couple of headaches. White on white just didn't seem to work with words, although I did consider embossing white on vellum. In the end, I decided that a limited use of a neutral is usually acceptable in a colour challenge, at least for outlines and sentiments. So I went with that and used silver embossing, in keeping with the cool, white theme.

We'd love to have you join us this week at The Paper Players. There's just a few things to remember, if you do:
  1. Create a NEW paper-craft project specifically for this challenge.
  2. Upload your creation to your blog with a link back to us.
  3. Please provide a direct link to the post featuring your challenge entry.
  4. Please link your card to no more than four challenges, total. Entries linked to more than 4 challenges, including ours, will be deleted without notification.
  5. Have fun!

The Paper Players 353 - DT card

Welcome to Claire's CAS Summer Fun in the Water challenge at The Paper Players. I have to tell you that this challenge has special significance to me because as this post goes live, my husband and I will be enjoying the fun and sun in Tahiti, where we've gone for a winter get-away.

As gloom and winter ills have surrounded us for the last few weeks, the prospect of a warm beach and sunshine seemed very attractive so I was drawn to my new Colourful Seasons set and the deckchairs in it. I hope I'm sitting on one right now! I gave them a masked and sponged background: sand, sea and sky. I made the sponging a bit rougher than usual to add to the sense of ocean movement and sandiness.

The chairs are a two-step stamp so I stamped the base on to the sand but I paper-pieced the seat using papers from the Colour Theory paper stack. To get the shape right, I stamped the seat using versamark and clear embossed it before fussy cutting it. Then I shaded under the seat to give some solidity to the chairs.

The drinks are popped up on dimensionals. I hope I've got some of those on the beach with me too!

I cut one of the snowflakes in Crushed Curry to be a stylised sun to ground the sentiment, which is from Clearly Besotted's Say it in Style. And I added in some starfish from By the Shore for some more marine life.

I do hope you'll join us for this fun CAS challenge. Here's a reminder of our few rules.

Freshly Made Sketches 287

It was a perfect Mother's Day: I got the house to myself this afternoon and I spent it in the craft room.

There were a few tasks in there: tidy up, unpack the Big Brown Box that arrived earlier in the week, prep some classes... and then some time to play with one of the new things and the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.

The stamps are from the new catalogue, a set called Colourful Seasons. There are the most amazing co-ordinating dies: Seasonal Layers. I couldn't resist using the gorgeous leaves, especially since it is the colours of autumn that I can see outside my window right now.

The panel is masked and sponged using So Saffron, Delightful Dijon and Cajun Craze - a colour I seldom use. I might need to rethink that!

Even the sentiment is from Colourful Seasons. Watch out for this bundle in the new Annual Catalogue, from 1 June.

Update: Delighted to be a Perfect Princess at Freshly Made Sketches.
