Peaceful Poppies for CI 96

Welcome to a new challenge at Colour INKspiration! This pretty combination is the pick of crew member, Leonie Stuart.

If you haven't played with us before, we are a group of Stampin' Up Demonstrators from the South Pacific. Challenges are shown and entered via our Facebook Group page. If you don't belong, and would like to, click here. Don't forget to answer the two easy questions you'll be asked when you ask to join the group.

Each challenge, Top Picks and a winner are chosen by the crew and the winner offered a chance to Guest Design with us for a future challenge.

If you don't have an exact challenge colour, feel free to replace it with whatever you have that's closest. Black, White, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand and metallics are free colours, as are flesh toned Stampin' Blends.

This challenge is just in time for Easter - if you take the Easter inspiration from the picture - and will run for THREE weeks.

Well, so many pinks and a green ... who could look past a floral creation? One of my favourite florals is the Poppy Moments dies set, so out it came along with the Peaceful Moments sentiment set.

I started by doing some ink smooshing with a large acrylic block, some ink pads and a spritzer. I did a small piece using Petal Pink and Blushing Bride to cut the buds from. Then I did a larger piece with Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo and a touch of Melon Mambo for the large poppies. Finally, I did one sheet using only Granny Apple Green because I wanted a different tone of it to mix with the Granny Apple Green cardstock.

I cut the lacy poppy flowers from Melon Mambo and added in some black stamens. Although I often reach for an embossing folder for a card front, this time I went for cutting out a background using the largest of the Many Medallions dies. I like the exotic garden trellis look this has created.

The sentiment is white embossed onto Basic Black, then shaped with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch. Finally, I added in some Opal Rounds.

We'd love to see what you make of these colours. Are you going floral? Or Easter? Both? Neither?

Poppy Moments for AYSI243

Welcome to the first colour challenge of the year at As You See It! In addition to changing up our look, we've changed some other things this year as well.  For the first time ever, we're introducing the chance for someone to join us as a Guest Designer in a future challenge. So the winner of this colour challenge will be invited to join in as Guest Designer for our next Recipe challenge. Not only this colour challenge, but all future colour challenges will come with the GD spot attached.

Even though I'm busy exploring the new products from the January-June Mini, this challenge graphic reminded me of the glorious Poppy Moments dies and Painted Poppies stamps from the annual catalogue and I just couldn't get past them. So off the shelf they came! And I'm glad they did because I love these vibrant poppies.

Since the challenge only allowed one red, I wondered how I'd get variation in the layers of the die cut. Of course, the answer was both simple and effective. I added Poppy Parade ink with a blending brush to the card stock on the bottom layer so that it would appear darker in the centre.

Before assembling the die cut poppies and leaves, I used the large splatter stamp from Painted Poppies to add in some Sahara Sand and the smaller one to add in a few touched of Garden Green.

I could have stopped there but decided to get out the retired Poppy sequin mix and added in some more touches of Poppy Parade and a hint of gold. (Surely gold is a neutral? 😉)

After white embossing the sentiment from Peaceful Moments onto the Basic Gray cardstock, I trimmed one end with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch although I could equally well have used one of the dies from Painted Labels.

We'd love to see how you see this colour challenge and, of course, we'd love to have YOU join us as Guest Designer.  You can see what the rest of the team have done with it and link up your entry at the As You See It Challenge site.

Poppy Moments for CAS Colours and Sketches 381

I was glad to have the chance to play along with the sketch at CAS Colours and Sketches today.

It's been a little while since I got out the Peaceful Moments bundle. It's easy to forget the great things already on your shelves when there's a new catalogue on the horizon! But the Poppy Moments dies in this bundle are spectacular. I've paired the large layered poppy die with some copper foil and a scrap of watercoloured paper that was left over from another project.

The horizontal strip has been embossed using one of the folders from the Greenery pair of folders. For a little variation, I clipped one end of the centre strip with the new, about-to-be-released Banner Pick A Punch. Look out for it in the July-December Mini-catalogue that will be available on 3 August.

The sentiment is from Timeless Tulips.
