Hooray for Surprises for The Paper Players 699

We've got a great challenge for you this week at The Paper Players. As always after a colour challenge comes a CAS challenge. This time, Joanne has given us a Happy Birthday theme to play with.

I started out my crafting journey very much a CAS crafter. Turns out that when I was working on this challenge, it seems things have moved on a bit for me! I had to make a real effort to pare back the layers, keep a lot of clean space, keep away from too much texture and to keep embellishments discrete!

I think I got to CAS in the end though....

I used the wonderful Hooray for Surprises stamps and dies for this one, although I resisted adding in any hidden panels or messages - which is the true beauty of these products. Instead I made a rainbow of birthday cakes: Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Azure Afternoon and Gorgeous Grape and a little flower of each colour too.

After die cutting the cakes and working out where they would be in the final arrangement, I went in and stamped a candle on the card front. I decided to pop all the cakes up on dimensionals, although originally I'd intended to make a mix heights.  Then I added in the small flowers as decoration and popped a small Basic Rhinestone Jewel in the centres.

The card base is Azure Afternoon and the sentiment is stamped in that colour too.

Don't get so carried away with the idea of a Birthday Theme that you forget about the CAS part of the challenge: Keep it Clean And Simple.

You can pop over to The Paper Players page to see what the rest of the design team have done and to add in your own entry.

Here's a quick recap of our challenge rules:

Hooray for Surprises for AYSI 318

Welcome to a new challenge at As You See It. After recipe week, it's always theme week. Joanne has chosen Easter as the theme for this challenge. It's fast coming up too, being so early this year.

I don't generally make Easter cards but I do often give Easter Eggs, so I thought I'd share some packaging with you.

I used half a piece of one of the designs from the Delightfully Eclectic pack to create the bag itself.

Then I decorated it using the Hooray for Surprises bundle. Although that bundle does have dies that allow you to create secret messages and hidden compartments you can, of course, use it straight. That's what I've done here. I stamped a sentiment in Garden Green and used one of the heart dies to cut it out. The foliage and flowers are all from the Hooray for Surprises die set.

I used the Stylish Shapes dies to cut a circle from the Silver Glimmer paper, then arranged the sentiment and floral bits around it.

The White Seam binding ribbon is from my stash, but I'm sure many people have a supply or, if not, something else just as pretty for the tie. To jazz it up a little bit more, and to tie in with the silver glimmer circle, I used a second bow in silver from the Simply Elegant Trim pack.

These bags are so easy to make. Watch out for the video to see how easy it is and to see how to customise the size.

Hooray for Surprises for AYSI 314

Welcome to the first  As You See It challenge of 2024. I hope you have all enjoyed a happy holiday season and are looking forward to an exciting new year. Our team leader, Heather C, kicks off the year with a sketch challenge. Isn't it lovely?

I thought the sketch would be a good way to show off the very sweet hidden message from the new Hooray for Surprises bundle from the January-April 2024 Mini Catalogue.

I turned the sketch on the side to accommodate the hidden sentiment. The sweet little cakes with their floral decorations are also from the stamp set.

When the tab is pulled up, the perforations tear and allow the recipient to see the hidden message. Cute, isn't it?

If you'd like to see how I made this card, here is video tutorial for you.

Make sure you visit the As You See It Challenge site so you can see what the rest of the team have done with the sketch and to enter your own project into the challenge.
