Retro Rubber 111 - Design Team Card

This week, at Retro Rubber Challenge, we're having a Tic-Tac-Toe. Choose a row, column or diagonal and use it to make your card. Of course, with this being Retro Rubber, you need to use at least one stamp that's more than a year old and tell us the approximate age of it.

Now that Stampin' Up's retiring list is out, you'll know that Lovely as a Tree is finally retiring this year after being in the catalogue since 2001! So this card is a farewell to that long-serving and truly lovely set. The sentiment is from a newer set - just about to have its first birthday - Rooted in Nature.

I've played the top row: neutrals, ribbon or twine, sponging.

I've not only sponged the hills for the trees but have used a sponge to distress the edges of the main panel and the Crumb Cake mat behind. This helped the plain Crumb Cake sentiment stand out more clearly. To add to the slightly distressed look, I've coloured the shiny silver leaf trinket with a Soft Suede Stampin' Blend - voila - instant antiquing!

The challenge will be open until May 31, so why not pop over to the challenge site to see what the rest of the team have done and then join in with us? You can visit the site here.

SIP 199 Let's Hear it for the Boys

I've always struggled with masculine cards and the challenge at Stamp, Ink, Paper gave me reason to have another go as does the challenge at The Male Room.

The Geared Up Garage suite certainly makes life easier on the masculine card front. I'm also having a bit of a love affair at the moment with waterfall cards, so I thought I'd see if they worked out in a masculine setting.

Up close, you can see the way using StazOn black has distressed the cogs in a very pleasing way.
I like that the sentiment is general enough to lead into either a birthday or Father's Day.

After this, I do think that a waterfall card can work just as well for the boys!

If you've been thinking about getting this set, then don't delay. While it's carrying over to the 2019 Catalogue, it will no longer be available as a bundle. Getting it now will save you 10%. And if you like the look of the Classic Garage DSP, then get it now before it retires.

TGIF211

The challenge this week at TGIF Challenge is a tough one... the dreaded no layer card.

It did however, force me to my desk to try to put into practice an idea that had been percolating for a while. I wanted to use the gorgeous large image from Good Morning Magnolia in a one layer setting, as if it was being viewed through a window. Here's how that turned out...

Good Morning Magnolia will be available for purchase when the new catalogue goes live on 4 June.

Because it was a no layer card, I couldn't use blends to colour because they would bleed through and look unsightly so I got out my SU Watercolour pencils and blender pen instead.

The faux frame is sponged in Flirty Flamingo with a touch of Berry Burst. The centre of the flower has a Wink of Stella touch of bling.

Freshly Made Sketches 387

One of the sets I'll miss the most when it retires on 3 June is Best Birds. It's been my go-to watercolour set. The images work well for a range of occasions from weddings to sympathy. So today, I've given it a farewell and thanks, using the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches for inspiration.

The three panels are very subtle in my take on this sketch. It farewells another favourite: the Softly Falling embossing folder. Here it's giving just an impression of falling rain for the best bird.

I've layered up the bird so that she's got some dimension from the branch.

Farewell and thanks Best Bird and Softly Falling folder.
If you want these items, order them today. Once they're gone, they're gone. Forever.
