Paper Players 447

I was happy to see the sketch that's the new challenge at The Paper Players

It's my kind of sketch and it gave me just the excuse I needed to play with my favourite set from the new 2019-20 Annual Catalogue: Very Versailles. I wanted it from the moment I saw it but it wasn't until a couple of days ago that I received it, after some delivery delays.

I enjoyed using the various stamps to create the collage style panel. The leaves have the most glorious distINKtive style, the script stamp is beautiful to use and the mirror frame screams out for some gold embossing.

It wouldn't be Versailles without some touches of gold, so the mirror frame is embossed, there's a hint of gold at the edges of the panel and some embossed gold foil backing the sentiment.

I used the Subtle embossing folder for the front because the texture put me in mind of the silk wallpaper.

A few pearl embellishments draw attention to the sentiment while adding some opulence of their own.

Freshly Made Sketches 393

This week's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches gave me a great opportunity to play with some of the new items that arrived on my doorstep while I was away on holiday.

Among those goodies was the To a Wild Rose bundle, a set I'd havered about ever since it was available on preorder. I really shouldn't have dithered! It's fantastic!

The stamp set alone is useful but the die set not only lets you cut out the flowers and leaves easily, it gives all sort of extras such as the fancy leaves and the lattice work.

Also new was the Bricks & Mortar embossing folder... this one's a keeper! It looks just like a real brick wall. It adds a natural textural element without even trying. Is it on your wish list yet?

A Card for a Special Farewell

Recently, a friend of my daughter's left her job of eighteen years to start a new challenge. There was to be a party of current and past friends and colleagues to farewell her. A special card was needed - something pretty and large enough for lots of people to leave messages in.

My daughter and I shared the task of making the card: we designed, she made, I supervised.
It was a bigger than normal card, an A5 size: the front was 21cm tall and 14.7 cm wide.

It tied closed with the lovely natural linen-look ribbon from the Magnolia Lane ribbon combo because it opened out like a book to reveal three writing panels and because the untying of the ribbon would add some more drama to the card and its messages.

This close-up of the card front shows the textures and layers more clearly.

After we'd created such an enormous card, there was then a question of an envelope. As we were designing on the fly, I worked out the dimensions to make a customised lidded box to put it in.
This is the top of the box.

The party has been and gone. The new job started today. I hear the card and its messages were well received. 😀

One of the many great things about crafting is that you can produce the exact card you want, when you want it. You can customise to your heart's content!
