Retro Rubber 107 - Design Team Card

This week at Retro Rubber Challenge, we've got a tic-tac-toe challenge for you. I'm very excited about it because I got to make it up. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I have enjoyed making it!
As always, the proviso with Retro Rubber is that you must use at least one stamp that is older than a year and give us an approximate age for it.

I played the centre row: thank you - leaves - repeat stamping.

I had fun with this one. I used Blackberry Bliss and Bermuda Bay re-inkers and a baby wipe to make my own ink pad to repeat stamp the leaves from Petal Palette. Petal Palette was released in January 2018 in the Occasions Catalogue.

I've added in some die-cut foliage from the Petals&More thinlits to further highlight the sentiment.

Have a look at what the rest of the team have done at Retro Rubber Challenge, then why not join us? Remember - use at least one stamp older than a year and give us an approximate age for it.

The Paper Players 434

It's sketch week at The Paper Players this week. I like sketch challenges and was looking for an excuse to use the Well Said bundle because it just hasn't seen enough action in the last month!

There are many die cut words to choose from but what I love the most is the die cut with three boughs of leaves, so I wanted to include them in this design.

I'm also very fond of using the Subtle embossing folder on foil because it gives such a lovely, faux ribbon effect.

CAS Colours and Sketches 313

This week's challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches gave me a chance to have a first play with Painted Seasons, one of the sets free during Sale-a-bration, with a qualifying order.  It is only available until the end of March.

The DisINKtive set has a striking flower plus various bits of foliage that lend themselves perfectly to a masked spray.

I used clear Wink of Stella on the leaves which not only added a bit of sparkle but spread the ink to be more like a light wash of colour, while retaining the shadowing.

The Paper Players 433

The challenge at The Paper Players is my nemesis and, I think, not just mine! The dreaded ONE LAYER CARD. Yep, nowhere to hide with these. No covering up a botched sentiment with a banner popped up on dimensionals, no die cuts or snippets of embossed card stock.  Not even a lovely coloured border to frame things - unless you sponge it on. Just you, the ink and ONE LAYER of card!

After starting, and abandoning, a number of ideas I decided to use this challenge to try out a technique I've seen in a number of places around the internet. I don't think it has a name but it's using Stampin' Blends to colour white embossing. Here's how that turned out...

In real life, the colours are a bit brighter than they look here but still pleasingly subtle. The centres are in Light Daffodil Yellow, the stems in Dark Granny Apple Green and the floofy bits are in Dark Calypso Coral. I left parts of them white so that it would look more nuanced than heavily colouring all of them.

What I particularly like about this card is that although the stamped panel are dandelion flowers, with the stems truncated into a line like this they're not unlike exploding fireworks. I think that ties in with the 'Happy Birthday' rather well.

Update: Delighted to be A Cut Above at The Paper Players!
